Default How to update navigation maps?

Are navigation map updates covered under basic warranty? If not then how much can I expect to pay? Can only the dealer update the maps?

I updated the navigation maps for the first time yesterday. The dealer has to do it, it took about an hour and the cost was $300 plus tax, about $325 total. We’ve had the car for 2 1/2 years and this was the first update we did because of the cost. We will probably update again in 3 years.

I took my car in just yesterday for the update. After two hours of waiting they told me there was a glitch. They said the update computers at Lexus was down or the phone lines were down. They kept my car and gave me a loaner after telling me it would be Monday before they tried to update it again.
Only God knows what’s really going on. Grrrrrrrrrrr

Why is there so much secrecy about updating the 2015 RX350 Navigation System. I wanted my RX Navigation System up to date when I bought and asked if I could have the SD card after they updated it. I did pay for the update, I just want the SD card as a back up in case something happened. They told me that they don’t give the customer the SD card. I’ve seen on EBay Micro SD card with Lexus Navigation updates, can’t figure out how you would use a Micro SD or where you would install it. I had a 2014 Toyota that I updated the maps every year that I had it. Does anyone know what really goes on when the service department updates the Lexus Navigation Unit.

Do not buy the Ebay ones, they will not work. You will just be throwing away money.
The dealer is the only one that can update the Nav. This involves a easy to locate SD card on all pre 2018 NX. It is right below the radio controls. 2018+ update themselves remotely.
The cost is $282 plus whatever extra your dealer is going to charge you.

A quick fix is downloading Enform App Suite and using Destination Search to find new or small businesses.

Destination Search within Enform App Suite works well, and syncs with smartphone reliably (Bluetooth needs to be ON to start it).
However, I see 2 issues that irk me:
- as the list of previous destinations grows on car Navi system, there is no way - I didn't find it - to trim this list. Can delete all or nothing on Navi, and not at all on the phone
- the maps are still old. As cities grow, new roads/intersections/neighborhoods will not show up on the map until the pricey Navi Maps update
