I have NX 200T, 2016, 22000 km.

I recently heard the metallic sound when I go over the speed bumps or potholes.

I went to the dealer in Toronto, where the car has been serviced since the purchase. They insulated subwoofer for me; also we test drove the vehicle with rear seatbelts buckled because technician said they can create some sounds and the rattle still there. The mechanic checked suspension for loose items, and nothing was found.

We took everything out of the car; even rear windshield wiper was removed to check if it is the source of rattling and the noise was not gone.

Right now, Lexus Canada just doesn't know what to do to help me. My final guess is the lock mechanism because as you know, we get snow a lot and maybe it caused damage to locking hardware.

Do you think it can be the reason of my problems too? I do not hear any sounds/rattles when I go on the even road. I hear some metallic rattling from the back of the car only when I drive through some potholes or speed bumps.

Have you had a similar problem? How to solve it?

 

Only way to locate the exact location is to ride in the back (trunk) while someone else drives it. If you don't fit, ask someone smaller. But nice of your dealer to do all that stuff for you though. When I went to my dealer with rattles, they did a really lame and poor job of diagnosing. They ended up not doing any fixes. I fixed all my rattles myself.

 

The rear license and it’s frame can cause the noise, was it checked? I glued thin foam rubber to the back of mine and it eliminated that rattle.

It was, we removed the license plate and its frame and went for a ride and still, the sound was present. Right now dealer thinks it is the lock on the liftgate and will replace it for me.

 

Have you ever figured out where the rattle is coming from? I believe I'm having the same issue, either the rear suspension or something in the cargo area.

 

My NX300 has developed a rattle in the trunk area. // Update: it was a bag, crisis averted. nothing to see here

 

We have the same rattling noise in the back. The licensee plate and LP bracket are on TIGHT, and it's highly unlikely to be the source of my noise. Has anyone found the source and a fix yet?

 

Figured out where the noise was coming from on my NX.

I pulled out everything from the cargo and made sure the jack/tools and spare tire were secure. Test drove it, the noise was still there, came back took out the spare tire and discovered that the tow hook somehow was at the bottom of the spare tire well. Normally the tow hook sits in its own little compartment on the right. I have no idea how it ended up underneath the spare. Anyway, I was happy that nothing was broken and Lexus has held its reputation of being reliable .
