Hi everyone, my parents purchased a 2015 Lexus NX (December 2014 build) equipped with Pre-Collison with All Speed Cruise Control back in March 2015 (NJ). Lately the car has been sluggish in how it slows down and in most cases doesn't slow down at all. For example, on a highway with cruise control set to 65 MPH and following distance set to 3 car lengths while approaching a car that is traveling 60 MPH, the NX will close that distance to 1 car length before slowing down and then it will proceed to slow down more to re-create the 3 car length distance When driving in traffic the NX (With radar cruise active) will NOT slow down regardless of how the vehicle in front is driving. Lexus even has a video ( ) promoting the feature. I also distinctly remember the adaptive cruise control working in stop and go traffic however now it doesn't work at all. The NX has had 3 visits to 2 different dealerships with both reporting that the car works as it should.

How do you some of your 2015 NXs with Pre-Collison with All Speed Cruise Control react to driving in traffic?

 

Mine works fine.

Pre-collision I am not 100% sure of, I've had 3 near misses and it's alerted me every time. I just recently had my forth "near miss" and I think the car actually braked when a car in front of me suddenly braked and I was quite close to it.

The adaptive cruise works on mine, you can set it to 50m, 40m and 30m and I use mine everyday on the highway travelling at 100km/h (62mph).

The All-Speed-Cruise also works on mine, it just follows the car in front and if the car fully stops, you need to push "resume" on the cruise control stick to resume driving after the car in front has lifted off.

 

The US-spec cars did not get All-Speed Cruise until the 2017MY. For the 2015MY, it was called Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, which I think it reduces the speed to 15 MPH and you will need to brake to 0. Then accelerate to the minimum speed (which I think is 15 MPH) before you are able to resume dynamic cruise control.

The video you posted isn't from Lexus USA, and instead is from Lexus International. Other countries get features that aren't/weren't available in the US.

 

According to the window sticker our NX does have All Speed Cruise Control. Moreover, our NX reacts so sluggishly to what happens in front of it that radar cruise is useless. The 3 car length following distance in our case is meaningless as the car doesn't actually start slowing down until it is much closer than that. The NX makes this attempt to slow down only at high way speed (65+) at speed lower than that it doesn't react at all to the car in front of it meaning that it will continue at the set speed till the driver brakes.

My dad picked this specific car solely because of the pre-collision system, however now it seems that the radar cruise control bundled with this system is more of a liability especially since it doesn't work as described.

NX2015. Welcome to the forum. One thing to point out is to ensure the front L emblem is as clean as possible since the radar is housed behind it.

I also had a few close calls in two years of ownership, on the highway, and the system will initially alert you then only engage the brakes at the very last moment. In Canada, I have only seen this operate at speeds above 26 mph/42 km/hr.

I am thinking of crashing into a mattress to see actually how close you have to be. I've seen it in videos but I need to feel it.

 

We purchased one of the first 2015 NX to be delivered to the Dealership in Hawaii back in Nov 2014 and mine came with the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. I use it on occasion when I am just feeling lazy and dont want to keep stepping on the gas and brake. I set the cruise control while driving on the freeway at about 60miles per hour, the speed just increases and decreases based on the speed the car in front of me is traveling. on one occasion, there was a fender bender in an adjacent lane and our speed went down to a 10mph crawl. At one point, we even stopped for a couple of seconds, then the traffic started moving again and the NX started to move and accelerate back up to the 60mph after we past the accident. I had told my wife that the DRCC was a cool feature and the car drove itself. My wife didnt know I was still using the system during all of that slow moving traffic and got mad at me for letting the car drive itself......I didnt step on the accelerator or brake once while going past the accident. So I know the system works!

 

I've read most of this thread and am rather confused. I have a 2017 RX450H F-Sport. Cruise works like this. Turn it on. Set the distance to maintain. It works every time. I live in a condo which has parking behind some of the garages, mine being one of them. The catch is you must be "within the lines". This requires that I park as close as possible to the garage door. Cruise on or off, I let the car creep up to the garage door. At maybe 15 CM (about 6") the car applies the brakes and stops...every time. I've had this car for about a year and a half and 5K miles. There WAS a learning curve. The curve is definitely worth the effort. Ask questions though. Lexus dealers are required to have technology specialists on staff to assist owners with the use of their technology. There's no charge for this assistance. I could be wrong but I don't think that there is even a time limit (way better than "Lexus Care".
