We are considering buying a travel trailer that we can tow with our Nx 200t. Has anyone else towed a travel trailer with their NX and if so what brand and make?

 

do you already have the factory hitch and wiring?

I think if your car didn't come with that, adding the wiring is complicated - search other threads for more info.

 

With a max towing capacity of 2,000 lbs. (and that's a trailer loaded with battery, propane, water, food, beer and gear) I don't think you will find a travel trailer that can be safely towed with an NX 200t. You might find a very small folding trailer (popup) or an A frame within your weight limitations. You will also have to make sure you don't exceed your car's cargo capacity which includes the trailer's tongue weight. My thought is that the towing package is more for hauling around a motorcycle, a jet-ski or a small aluminum fishing boat. Larry G.

This all aluminum lifting roof tear drop trailer weighs 1715 lbs empty. I am installing an aftermarket Curt class III hitch and 7 pin trailer harness.

 

I really like that trailer! I'm not sure I would want to tow it with my NX, but I like it a lot

 

Here it is hooked up with the roof down. It tows like a dream.

Do you happen to know what your gross trailer weight is and how much weight you have on the tonuge? Are you using trailer brakes? Also, what wiring adapter kit did you use for the 7 pin trailer wiring? The ones I found on etrailer are 4 pin that need an additional adapter to go to 7pin with trailer brakes.

 

How did you set up the brake? My trailer towing days are over. But I never owned single axle trailer for safety reason. My first rig was 1 ton Ford van with a 19' regular tandem axle trailer. Progressed to 7200 lbs. all season 5th wheel with towing special HD 3/4 ton Ford Super cab. Kids grew up enjoying camping all over the places all season. Now we own a small cottage near Rockies with full services as a bare land condo. This is our week end hide out. Good luck with your trailering.

 

This person hasn't posted on clublexus since posting that picture. I tow a scamp 13 fiberglass trailer and once you install the 7 pin, setting up the brake controller is just like you would for any other trailer/camper.

 

We also have a Tekonsha Prodigy wireless brake controller installed with the Alto trailer. The motion sensor is mounted on top of the trailer battery box and senses inertia changes to control the electric brakes. We now have almost 2 years of towing with this combination and it still works great. We also have a weight distribution hitch that allows it to track wonderfully.

 

It is interesting that you are using a weight distribution hitch, i know they were not allowed for a long time on unibody vehicles, but the nx does not mention anything for or against it in the manual. I was thinking of upgrading my nx to the rav4 adventure rear springs, to increase the tongue weight and help with the rear sagging a bit with the camper and family loaded up. I haven't had any issues with the camper swaying or not tracking well behind the car, but its good to investigate options. If you could post a picture of your weight distribution setup sometime that would be great.
