Default Tailpipe soot

I noticed soot building up on the ends of the tailpipes of my NX 200t and asked the dealer about it. The dealer told me that this build up is normal on cars with a Turbo.
Has anyone else noticed this build up? Is it normal?

Thanks,

.... lol

Ok, in all seriousiness, you asked your dealer why an internal combustion engine produced carbon? Do you understand how an engine works? (not insulting, but honest question....)

First off, your dealer is a moron, the fact the car has a turbo, is irrelevant to the carbon buildup you're seeing on your exhaust. That carbon buildup is a result BURNING FUEL, and more importantly, burning fuel that is part of an overly rich fuel mixture.

You wanna see black, you should see how quickly my wife's IS350 turns the tips of her ARK exhaust black. Or you should see how black the tips of my Camaro are after a couple full pulls.

Its fine. Clean it off. If anything, its a sign you don't clean your car enough.

I agreed -- complete BS from the dealer to relate it to the turbo engine. The tip of the exhaust for my IS350 also has soot. I clean the exhaust tip in every single hand car wash but after a few days, soot reappears. You can make the soot easy to clean by waxi/sealant/coating on it.

Too funny, man.

OP, soot on the tailpipe is very common.

I keep a Swifter in the garage at all times. The rims gets dusted practically each day between washes and the tips get it every other day, no matter what. The NX has much less soot than our old CX-5. If the soot buildup goes on too long, its hard to get off. In that case, a cleaner called NEVR-DULL will take it right off!

The soot on the tips is a pet peeve of mine...

The best fix for this get the 300h model, not tail pipes to worry about, at least not that can be seen!!
