I don't have sound on the computer I am on so I can't tell what they are saying until I get home. Looks like they tinted the fronts fine though?
Also.. worst case scenario if the tint guy scratches the coating, couldn't they just scrape all of it off? If it's that easy to get scratched off then I don't know if I'd want it on the window to begin with and if it's all scraped off one would never know once the actual tint is applied.
I'm going to check with a couple places by me and see if they have heard of this or will/will not tint our 18' NX. I want the front windows to match the rear windows in terms of tint.
I have a 2018 NX300, it was tinted at a shop the Lexus dealer uses. The drivers side had a few spots on it and was redone and turned out good, it has lifetime warranty on the tint they said.
I just had my 16 Nx tinted and asked the guy about the coating on newer vehicles, he was unaware of any. He did state thought that he usually does not do his cutting on the glass. He takes a template on the outside and cuts off the window.
Old thread but I am getting 3m Color stable 20% to match the rear. 35% isn't dark enough an I want the front to match the rears as close as possible. It will always look a little lighter due to the huge front windshield letting light in.
I ordered a kit from filmvantage on eEbay. Was $70. I've tinted all of our cars using their cutouts and they are perfect everytime. The one time the cut was slightly different than the window I emailed them and the promptly sent out a new window tint for the particular window that wasn't right.
Front windows are super easy to tint so I don't suspect I'll have any problems. The tiny little window will probably be a little bit of a pain, but... I'll snap pics once it's all done. Remove the door panel as seen in this video to make it way easier to tint the window.
I've used them on all of our cars and their tint is always quality 3m and cut perfectly.
See pics below. Matches very well. I went with 20%. The only difference you can tell is when you are on the inside. The factory tint lets more "white" in for lighting compared to the front. So when looking outside you can slightly see a difference with the shade but that's to be expected given the factory dyes the glass compared to using a manufactures's tint product.
Note that I did NOT use a razor blade to clean the windows. Cleaned using hard card and squeegee, and I had ZERO problems or scratches on the front windows what so ever... If you take it to a place and the F up they shouldn't be tinting. Tinting is not my profession at all but it's not hard. Shrink the tint to the window then make sure the window is CLEAN... and it goes fairly easy. The front windows are not complex at all so it's quite easy.
Figured I'd post here since our NX sub forum doesn't really have a thread like this.
I tinted my wife's 18' NX with 3m color stable 20% on the front. Love it. From the OUTSIDE it matches pretty perfectly with the rear factory tinted windows. However, when you are inside you can definitely see a difference in the fronts from the backs. Does anyone have pictures of the inside looking out from only front window tint?
It definitely bothers me more than my wife. My wife doesn't seem to care, but when I drive her NX just being able to see the back windows when I turn and look compared to the front are bothersome in a way. I was thinking of getting 50% tint 3m CS for the rear but I am really hesitant because I don't want the back windows to be super dark or hard to see. The front 20% is already some what difficult at night. Making the rear darker would not be good but I'm looking to match as close as possible. I just haven't ever seen 50% over the factory rear tint or how much darker it would make it...?
Here are exterior shots of what I did.
Now here is an example. NOT of our NX but almost the same deal, you can see that the front windows are darker than the rear. The rear windows let in more "white" light and have a different "hue"/"color" to them. Fronts are definitely more charcoal compared to the rear factory privacy glass which is lighter.
EDIT 1:
Found this youtube video and did a sreen shot. You can see the fronts have a different hue/color than the rears. You can see the difference I hope. Just wondering the best way on correcting that. It's obvious from the exterior so I could only imagine what it looks like from the inside. Where ours looks good from the exterior but is off from the interior looking out.
I think tinting windshield is dangerous, as it decreased the visibility. There is better way to cut on rays and keep your car cool. Somewhere in the video (link below) they explain that the film applied to a windshield is not tinted, yet offers results you are looking for. Cheers.
