My AC isn’t blowing cold air. Maybe coincidence, but around the same time it stopped working I had a rat build a nest in my engine bay. Other than pulling apart the fabric on the firewall to build the nest, I don’t see any other damage. Could they be related and if so what should I check?

if not, is it just likely the Freon needs to be topped off or could it be something else? It worked fine last summer, but not this year.

thanks in advance

Check for damaged wires in the vicinity of the nest. Rats, like mice, squirrels, and other rodents, have teeth that grow continuously throughout their lives. The must chew or gnaw on something regularly to wear their teeth and compensate for new growth. This behavior is not necessarily associated with harvesting nesting material.

I did a visual inspection when I took out the nest but didn’t see nothing. Are there any particular wires or hoses I can check? Not sure which are part of the AC.

The nest itself was on top of the engine cover. I realize the rat could have been anywhere.

There are 3 electrical air conditioner components under the hood. The attached drawing shows their locations(black arrows).
