Default TPMS Sensors Replacement

Has anyone successfully mixed and matched 1 desno sensor with 3 oem tpms sensors.

I had a shop install one shrader sensor to replace an oem one that died. After it was replaced and programmed, the light went away but it doesn’t read the exact pressure on the dash it’s just showing - - -. I’m thinking maybe the shrader isn’t compatible so maybe I should try one desno and with the 3 existing oem sensors. Has anyone had success with this?

Some sensors may be compatible/interchangeable, but most are not, even if the manufacturer claims to be. Your best bet is to order from Toyota/Lexus and have the shop reinstall.

Buy a $3 tire pressure gauge. Cover the light with black electrical tape and worry about it next time you get new tires.

OP, do it the right way and don't slap on a $3 generic piece of crap on your car. I never understood why people would want to drive a premium vehicle, but refuse to properly remedy any issues and put a band-aid on it instead. And then covering the light with black tape? Are you kidding me?

I guess you have never used a tire gauge. It's not something you slap on a car. Good thing new cars have lots of dummy lights.

Not a $3 one, no I haven't. Like I said, don't put (or use) cheap crap. And definitely don't stick black tape over any lights, "dummy" or not. Your car is telling you something is off, so why not address it the right way.

The car might need to drive a little bit more. If it still shows three --- after more miles, then the TPMS programming probably wasn't done correctly, the new sensor ID wasn't registered to replace the old one.

I find the PSI display to be super helpful. It saved my wife twice, where she was able to see one tire getting low PSI while driving, and was able to get off the freeway quickly to find a spot that's safe to do the spare, before the tire becomes completely flat.

Did you also check all wheels with a tyre pressure gauge?
Shrader make most of the associated tyre air components so I'm sure they know what they are doing.

I'd bring this issue to the shop since they claimed to programmed it. I have oem sensors in my summer and winter tire sets.

`---` could mean the following:
- sensor in the energy saving mode and will start reporting values once you drive for a few km. This happens to me when I swap my winter and summer tires. I've noticed that newer sensors are more often in `---` state compared to the ones the came with my car - probably an energy saving "feature".
- id is not configured. Every time I swap tires, I need to reprogram sensor IDs in techstream to register new sensors. I'd check if they registered proper IDs.
- sensor is defective or battery is dead

there is a setting to recalibrate TMPS sensors, you can try that one out. I don't think it's would help in your case but it's worth trying.
