Default Bye bye front window tints

I was pulled over last Thursday in San Francisco by a cop and he gave me a fix-it-ticket to remove my front window tints because they were 40% over the legal tint. Where can I go to have it removed and about how much does it cost? I guess it's legal to have the front windows tinted that much in Chicago, where the guy I bought the car from purchased it from.

It might be legal in Chicago, but any window tint in the front for the most part is illegal in CA.

I think I seen that 70% is legal in CA. But that's basically clear. Any shop can take off the tint. Should be like 25dollars to remove

You can take them off yourself. Get a xacto knife and peel.

Being a tinter myself, best and easiest way I've removed film is by a steamer. I guess you can just grab the top corner and peel it off too but will leave a lot of residue to clean up.

Well at least your lucky enough to where the cop gave you a fix it ticket, the cops down here in southern cali mark them as uncorrectable.

Try to take it back to the place that installed them. If I recall correctly, the place I went to (Mr. Tint) said they will take care of it if I got a fix-it ticket.

So you had 30% tint up front? That's what I'm running... I thought I'd be safe from the popo.

And yea, I guess my front windows are 30%. I bought my car used and the previous owner had it tinted at the dealer when he bought it in Chicago. The cop used some light-transmitting device to measure the amount of tint and said I was 40% over the legal tint amount.

Tint laws are just ridiculous - especially when you see cop cars driving around with blacked out windows.

Texas is still at 20% all the way around, but OK there are no tint laws.

VA is 50% in the front and 35% in the rear. I plan on getting 35% all around. Seems like Cali should have darker windows for the sunnier/hotter weather.
