Got a 2002 RX300 w/ about 109,000 miles on it. Problem is that more times than not the trans will not shift out of park. I need to press the white button under a plastic cover next to the shifter to release it and move it out of park. This happens every time now for the past few days. Any ideas? Fixes?
Note: Doesn't seem to matter if car has been sitting on a hill and my parking brakes is always applied when parked.

Hello,
A quick question on a 2nd gen(2003) GS300...
Is it okay to run with the timing belt being off by 1 tooth?
Some background:
Replaced timing belt, water pump, idler roller, tensioner, serpentine belt and performed radiator flush. After two days, I got a P1346 diagnostics code. Upon checking the timing at TDC, I see the crancshaft timing is off by about 1 tooth. Is this something I should correct ASAP?

I suspected you would recommend that I correct the timing, so I spent a few hours and re-timed everything. It is reassuring to know that the small misalignment wouldn't have caused any damage to the engine. Thank you for the kind input.
Tach, found this diagram here from a CL vendor. Can you point out which part(s) may be defective?

My son recently purchased a 1999 GS300 with 138,000 miles. Almost every time he drives it, the following happens:
~ First, there is a grinding noise which appears to come from the master cylinder unit.
~ As he continues driving the car for several miles, the following things happen all at once:
- The dashboard indicator light for the "VSC", "VSC OFF", "ABS", and "BRAKE" come on.
- A high pitched, whining noise (like a dog whistle) starts up and remains constant. The noise comes from the dashboard.
When the lights and noise happen, the brakes and ABS seem to function just fine. The only action which eliminates these indicators is to turn the car off. Upon restart, the symptoms are gone for a little while but they come back.
Thanks, in advance, for your assistance.

Thank you Tach, much appreciated. Is the spring mechanism that you refer to inside the gear **** (button you press when trying to change gears) or is it somewhere under the shifter cover? Is it simple to change or should I take it to a mechanic?
