Default Interest in a Charity Car Show

Alright, I know people have been saying that anyone can step up and organize something, and I haven't organized a meet in over a year so I figured it was time.

Early September I am thinking of holding a charity car show somewhere in CT. I just started thinking about it this morning but this would be open to all makes/models, etc. just with a small entrance fee that goes to the Charity.

I haven't figured out which charity yet, but I'm open to suggestions. Last time I (with help, of course) raised over $1,500 for the Jimmy Fund. I am hoping to shatter that this time. Last time There were about 150-175 cars, and I would like to see over 300. If this is something all of NELOC would be interested in (or know of any vendors that would be willing to contribute in one way or another) let me know, and I will get the ball rolling on this.

Joe this sounds like a really good idea, especially for charity. Hopefully there will be some positive turnout for this one. Investigate it a little more, get as much information possible (date, time, entrance fee) and then post back up. Just throw it to the wind and seee what blows in. I know there are several things being planned for Sept, so keep us posted with the vital stats. Right now, both the North and South area of NELOC are going through a period of,, transition if you will,, in which alot of things are being dissolved, uncovered, reorganized, etc. We are working on not only making the meets fair and different for all of the major local areas but working on ways to raise the interest level of our members to attend meets in area of some of our members who are a bit more distant (Western PA,CT,RI, Ma. etc.). Like I said, I actually like the idea, but not sure if a group gathering is gonna be possible to represent in CT. in time, especially with some of the events already in the works for Sept. (Ross Dock, as well as people going back to school etc.) Grab the info.,, post up the vital stats,, and just keep an eye on this thread to gauge interest. If your list of responses grow, then take charge and organize pulling people together, meet up place, etc. If it doesnt grow, then dont take it to be a negative thing, just bad timing maybe. With ANY meet, be it local, regional, etc.,, the ONLY thing that anyone can do it to put the info out there, monitor the responses and then act from there. Just about ALL meets are a matter of a flip of the coin.

Grab the info and post up!!!

Alright, here's a bit more info.

Going to shoot for the 15th of September, and more than likely It'll be for the Jimmy Fund, unless anyone else has another charity which they would like it to be donated to. I haven't found a park yet, however there are many of them in CT - I just have to find out if there is a reservation fee in order to hold the park.

Within the next week I will be finding the park, and how much an entrance fee is going to be. Entrance fee will probably be $5 donation when you get there, but anything more will (of course) be accepted. I would love to also have a raffle so if any vendors want to contribute something (nothing crazy, but something) I would greatly appreciate it. If I cannot get any vendors to show up then I will think about just doing a 50/50 raffle.

I am going to also try and get local newspapers and possibly a radio station to come out, but that will be worked out within the next week or so.

This will also be open to any type of car as well. I have many friends who are into DSM's,SRT-4s, hondas, etc. so I will be making a note on srtforums and FYCracing.com. If anyone is involved in other forums (Honda-Tech, whatever) feel free to spread the word once it is 100%. I will hopefully be making an online flyer so everyone can pass that around as well.

Great initiative Joe! I commend you. This is the kind of spirit that we should all have. Another way that we can help some of these charities is thru charity car donation. There are tax incentives for us to do this, we get rid of our old useless cars, and we end up doing something great for somebody else.

At the Roundtable we had down here in MD yesterday there was significant interest in a charity meet. See what you can get going Joe.

Yes, Joe, giving full credit to you for this idea; it was brought up at our roundtable meet here in MD. We will try to get a list of possible interested members together for the drive up there(is at least a 4-4/5 hour drive from MD) but not sure what may happen. We also have had discussions of using your original idea and coming up with something in a median location like Harrisburg, Philly, or Atlantic City; as well as doing some local event of this nature in our own areas. This will enable the event to be an equal opportunity for all of the interested members to attend as well as serve as a regional meet(per say). This is probably one of the best ideas I have seen here in a long time, and yet soo simple. Cost little to nothing to get going, and great rewards abound. Great work Joe!!!! You are truly commended!!!!

Hey guys... I'm new to the NELOC forum but I'm always posting in the GX and ES forums.

Joe great idea! Unfortunately I can't make Sept 15 but my contribution is to suggest to contact some local Lexus dealerships to see if they would be interested in being a sponsor. If no Lexus dealerships then look into automotive performance stores.

I've never been to a meet so I don't know what goes on there. Can someone educate me? Is there a theme\agenda to a meet?

Meets are simple.. Just take pride in your ride and show up. Most of the time we just hang out, discuss mod ideas or options, catch up with old/new friends, etc. We just enjoy the gathering of people and making new friends. There are times when we caravan to different places (attention getter) in formation, however these can get a,,,little,,, out of hand sometimes. LOL!!!!

Nice! Sounds like what I use to do in High School and College. Everyone with their cars just meet up at the beach to hang out and show off their cars or whatever.

Well, in my opinion if its going to be a fund raiser then it should have a theme with sponsors and some give aways. Give aways attracts more people to the event hence more $$ to charity. The size of the turn out makes it better for the sponsor as well. Its a win\win situation.

It its just a meet, then pick a spot and people show up.
