I have run a diagnostic test that came back with a code 12, in a chilton manual it says,Rpm NE,G1 or G2 signal to ECU- missing for 2 seconds or more after STA turns on. Can anyone tell me what this might mean in doit yourself terms? The car was running fine and now I cannot get any fire. Is this possibly the computer thats out ? Any help is appreciated!!!!!!! Thanks
Chris,
Read both of your threads. I don't have my service manual with me so not sure what code 12 is. You are getting fuel. Are you getting spark? Doesn't sound like it if the tach is not getting an RPM signal. First, pull your timing belt covers off and check to see if the cams are turning when your crank. Also check to see if the belt skipped a tooth or three. If the t-belt checks out OK begin to check your ignition components. Coil, Ignitor, cap, rotor, signal lead to the tach, etc etc. Post back
Thanks for the input, took off the dist. cap today and discovered the distributor was trashed replaced it , plugs, wires, cap, and rotor . RUNS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chris,
Good to hear....... NOW.... why was the distributor "trashed" ?? Was it physically broken or just worn beyond service? What's the maintanece history?
Good maintenace on the car, bought used last year 115,000 mi., the top of the dist has 3 magnetic typ0e coils that were completely wound around the shaft that holds the rotor dutton, had to replace dist. do to they do not sell parts individually! Thanks Again!
Chris,
It was probably best to replace the whole distributor anyways since it really sounds like a worn bearing or something similar causing an out of balance on the shaft which lead to the coils wrapping around the rotor. Glad to hear the car is running again. Hope you were not raped for the distributor, they can get expensive from the Stealer.
