I think thats the heater valve. You may want to check and see if its leaking and the condition of those hoses.

So is the heater valve is what I took a picture of. Do I just buy a new one of those and put it on or should I get a new hose, too. Anything else I need to check? Thanks for your help on this I really appreciate it.

Check the hoses although a car that age I would reccommend changing them along with the valve. Also now would be a great time to do a coolant system flush.

Lightbulb UPDATE

The hoses were fine. Nice and supple.

The reason the valve failed was due to chunks of stuff floating around in the coolant. No, it had obviously not been changed in 10 years, despite the car's being serviced at the dealer all of its life.

I did a thorough flush of the system with the help of a friend who almost broke one of his fingers trying to get the coolant plug off of the block. I owe him a few beers to say the least!

Just letting you guys know I got it fixed okay.
