I take all my cars to my Japanese Master Mechanic. I've been going to him for 15 years. He is a great mechanic, very honest and trustworthy. I'll go to the Lexus dealer only if I have to, for warranty repairs, and nothing else.
i usualy go to the dealer for most work because they are ok with me bringing my own parts on most stuff.
so i can buy my OEM parts from online discount lexus parts places like MyLparts or places like that
i usualy only go outside the dealership for
wheel alighments and tires stuff
costco for tires because lifetime balance and rotate included there
and Firestone for alignments because i have a lifetime package with them.
I can get oil change packages from the dealership 50 dollars x3 if i pay 3 up front at the lexus dealership
and that includes rotations between wheel balancing which is only every 10k and then car washes which woudl cost me 14 at the car wash so id rather pay 50 to the dealership then 40 at the local oil change
Dealer for things like oil changes, fluids, or more technical things that require troubleshooting. Myself for brakes, filters, wipers, and the easy DIY stuff, and an independent for struts, bearings, bushings, and straightforward mechanical stuff.
This way I can save money, still be in the good graces of the dealership, and have somewhere to go when there is work that I don't have the tools or time for. My dealer's prices are the same if not cheaper for stuff like oil changes and fluid flushes, so theres no reason not to go to them, and they give me a loaner for everything, even battery changes. People here are quick to crucify the dealerships, but you just have to know what you're getting.
