how many miles you got on it? The rule is thumb on the tranny flush is every 30K miles.

You should have done the flush when you dropped the pan.

I just did a flush last week on my Integra..... gears feel alot more responsive now. My GS is up for one soon.

I'm looking into doing this very soon. I started shopping around.

Pep Boys = $120
Jiffy Lube = $100
Transmission shop by the house = $70.

Make sure the place you ask are capable of doing a full flush not just drain and refill the pan (that is a 5$ worth of job), (only a few dealership can do this, special machine needed)

use only Toyota ATF Type IV, cost $25 a bottles, (you need 3 bottles)

I don't see how Jiffy lube do it for $100, lexus wants 250 for this job (100 is the oil cost)

I asked my Service Rep today actually about this - they don't do flushes.

JL can probably do it based on volume alone.

Thumbs up the valvoline place said so.

i need to go buy 14 or so quarts of type iv tranny fluid. I think that would be 3.xx pints..correct or do i have it backwards. anyway valvoline says they can do it easy, and i just bring in the fluids. i think its regularly 89.95 minus the 30 bucks they charge for their fluids. so i think i shall get this done when i have free time. thanks bryan

Very few Lexus dealers due full ATF flushes. My dealer up in San Antonio uses two fluids to clean most of the old fluid out. The Toyota dealer down here just drains it (hardly does anything). However, the people posting are correct....use only Toyota Type-IV. My previous dealer in Maryland had been using Castrol ATF (garbage), and the Type-IV is much better. 30K is about right for the U.S., but down here my transmission gets a working so I usually have it changed every 15K.

Have you checked into a local Toyota dealer doing the flush?

Just called the 'Yota dealership down the road. $95 / 1 hour, and I have some of my own fluid, so should be less.

I've read that you should not use Toyota Type-IV if you have a 1994 ES300.

Anyone know what method dealers use? Drain, or pump-out?

SharpLS-96,

The Lexus transmissions use the screens, at least SC and GS. While it is still good idea to clean it once in a while the Amsoil Technical Service Bulletin does not apply to us. Also, we are talking about Amsoil, and as much as I do use their products, you have to read between the lines.

Dex,

Dealers around Chicago only drain. It is very hard to find Lexus/Toyota dealer that will flush transmission.

It does apply to us regardless of what car you have and what fluid you use.

I know all transmissions use either filters or screens in the pan. I think you mean that with Lexus all you have to do is clean the mesh screen rather then having to replace it with a new one like you have to do with a filter type element. I know this already so I'm not sure what point your trying to make.

Even with Lexus the correct way to do a complete/full tranny fluid flush/change is to use a machine that sucks/pulls the fluid from the lines, pump, and torque converter IN ADDITION TO DROPPING THE PAN AND CLEANING THE MESH SCREEN. Doing only one or the other is not the correct way. Dropping the pan only does not drain the old fluid from the torque converter where most of the fluid is housed.

You need to use a machine like this and use any fluid you want. I prefer either Redline or Amsoil full synthetic fluid over Toyota Type IV.

Let me know the mileage at the time of your new transmission installation.

Thanks.

P.S. I never said that the transmission flush in not needed. I did say though, that it is hard to find a dealer that can do it, or wants to do it. I also said that there is a need to clean the transmission screen occasionally. On the other hand, it doesn't need to be done as frequently as a filter. Some dealers call it a major transmission service. I know, because I've done that as well.
