Let me know when you gain some automotive engineering lubricant knowledge in "100% Full Synthetic Fluids" vs "Conventional Petroleum Based Fluids"

SharpLS-96,

Obviously you again didn't do your homework. Can you tell me where Amsoil or Redline specifies that their synthetic ATF can be used as the T-IV replacement?

Let me see:

Amsoil Synthetic ATF.
"Recommended for applications requiring the following specifications:
GM Dexron II, Dexron III
Ford Mercon, Mercon V
Chrysler ATF+, ATF+2, ATF+3, ATF+4
Mitsubishi Diamond SP II & III
Allison C-3 & C-4 and TES-295
Caterpillar Powershift Transmission TO-2 & TO-3
Voith Commercial Transmissions
GM Strasbourg (European Imports) and Opel"

Redline Synthetic ATF:
"Synthetic ATF product is an approved GM Dexron II, Ford Mercon, and Mercedes Benz Automatic Transmission Fluid and is suitable for
GM, late model Ford, or any vehicle which recommends Dexron IID or Dexron IIE or Mercon for refill."

To help you with the homework you failed to do, here are some off many links you could find on the internet on this sobject:

"Many manufacturers require special ATF for particular transmission designs. For example, some Toyota all-wheel-drive (AWD) vehicles require a special Type T fluid, and no acceptable substitute exists."
http://www.csaa.com/global/articlede...7C2025,00.html

"Other vehicle manufacturers may also have special dealer-only fluids. For example some Lexus models require Toyota Type T II fluid, which has different requirements from the fluids discussed above. Always consult your lubrication guide or the vehicle owner's manual for ATF recommendations to insure that you are using the correct ATF in each application."
http://www.pennzoil.ro/carcare/pete/...998/choose.htm

Or you could visit Peter Scott's web site (old one)http://www.users.bigpond.com/pgscott.../autotrans.htm

Or you can simply use a SEARCH option on the ClubLexus web site.

I am sure that Redline and Amsoil are good products (if we only had them down here!), but you have to be careful. I know Mobil 1 can be used in place of Toyota Type-IV. However, my friend with an MDX had an experience putting in a non-Honda ATF, and ended up with a big repair bill due to leaks. Seems that Acura/Honda uses their own special ATF fluid, and if you use something else............

Lexmexico,

Do you have any proof that Mobil1 can be used in the place of the Toyota-IV fluid. From the Mobile 1 website:
Applications: Provides performance superior to GM Dexron® III and Mercon® in all domestic and imported cars and most automatic truck transmissions.
They do not mention T-IV.

Let me do it one more time:
"Many manufacturers require special ATF for particular transmission designs. For example, some Toyota all-wheel-drive (AWD) vehicles require a special Type T fluid, and no acceptable substitute exists."

Default H2O Anyone???

Previous comment by BananaGS:
*** I don't see how Jiffy lube do it for $100, lexus wants 250 for this job (100 is the oil cost)

Jiffy Lube can probably do it for $100 because they refill your transmission with water. If you're nice, maybe you get distilled. If not they use spring water. :-) :-) :-) OR maybe some left over anti-freeze from the car before you. You wouldn't want your tranny to freeze now, would ya???

Don't bring your LEXUS to Jiffy Lube (Jiffy Lose) under any circumstances. There are better quick-change places out there, many are privately owned. And most probably none of them stock Toyota T-IV fluid....

Please note that my first comment is a joke, just in case anyone has misinterpreted.
However, second comment is based on horror stories I've heard first-hand, along with a few from my own experience.

I have a friend that has a machine that will do the flush.
He say he charges $120 for all cars.
Told me that If I bring the fluid...$100+ He will do it for me for $50-60.
So at the Cheap...It is still $150! The dealership down here said $120 for the fluid +$100 for the job. + Taxes. Every mechanic tells me if the car requires a particular fluid, use it or else something is going to go wrong.

what do transmissions run these days? $2500-3500???

Toyota type 4 tranny fluid costs $25-$30 per 4 liter can-i believe 3 cans are needed for a LS400 flush.

My local Toyota dealer (NJ) is selling Type IV fluid by the quart (or liter) at $4.99 per. That's even cheaper. 12 liters ~= $60. Might want to check with your local Toyota dealer instead of Lexus dealer, or internet?

so how much will it cost jsut for FLUID total? My toyota dealer says $120 for a full tran flush with the fluid.. if the fluid is expensive or half the flush cost... I should get it seperately under wholesale price..

brought with me 2.5 Cans for GS

Quote: $250, then $150 if bring my own fluild it, but when I pick up the car, they said it's 135 for the whole job, (charged 1 hr of work @ $85, $15 for the flush kit+20 1 extra can+15 for tax and some misc bolts that is missing under my car that I want them to replace):
Total ( paid $115 at Lexus of Austin for the full flush + one extra can at $20)

free IS300 ha ha
==> look like you may need ~4 CANS to flush the GS, it's depend on the tech, if he wants to run some extra fluild (also I have the tranmission cooler, that take more oil also)

1can = 4 litters (~ 4qt) ~ 1gal)

got it?

Called several Toyota places, only 1 other toyota place in austin that can do the Full flush and they want $135, what do i pick? Lexus of course, free loan car and car wash
