Newbie here with a dumb question... (long)
Hi y'all... first post here. It's a question about my wife's 92 ES 300. She said "you drive the car today - I'm taking your truck. The rear window defroster isn't working".
I figured - no problem. Prolly the fuse. (I'm careful about cleaning the window so I know the wires on the glass are intact) Go to the owner's manual. Look up the fuse location. Cool. 30amps - located to the right of the "instrument panel" fusebox. Pop it open. See all the fuses except the defogger fuse...
I looked at the two fuseboxes under the hood (our car is the U.S. model) and broke a tab looking at the two kick panel fuseboxes.
Called the dealer and they said it was "behind or underneath the coin tray" I didn't even see a coin tray...
Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance...

did you call a toyota dealer? cuz they like to refer to things as "coin box"...coinbox is actually the place where your left knee hits the left part of the steering wheel when you're seated for driving... i'm pretty sure you checked it (kickpanel). that being said, i don't know where else to check, sorry. someone else might. but i do welcome you to clublexus.
I called the Lexus dealer where I bought the car! The service manager didn't know - he said he'd call me back after he talked to a tech. The tech is the one who suggested the "coin box" placement.
Arrgh!
Thanks for the welcome. I'll try and figure out where the he!! this thing is!

I have a '96. I looked everywhere and never did find that damn fuse. In my case, the rear defogger was dead due to damaged window elements; they were damaged when the dealer removed the window tint. Bummer for me. I guess the only fix is a new rear window.
Maybe that fuse is shared with another device and not labeled.

Maybe this will help.
On the '02 the the rear window defogger is fuse #64.
It is rated as a 40 ampere. Fuse 64 is the bottom RIGHT square fuse on the driver's side instrument panel.
The coin tray on the 02' is the small 3x3 hatch on the lower part of the dashboard to the left of the steering column. Its a little compartment that is hinged and opens to reveal a small tray. Remove this hinged door/tray assembly. Picture in manual looks like a little pressure on each side towards the back of the sides should bring the catch/stops together close enough that the door will fall out easily.
The fuse panel should be behind this. #62, 63 and 64 are square fuses along the bottom. 62-left, 63-middle, 64-right.
I dont know how much the '92 and '02 fuse setup has changed, if it has changed at all. But take a look.
If you find the fuse and it is not blown. the next step would be to hook up a volt/ohm meter to the leads going to the elements in the window. If you are not getting current here and the fuse is intact, there may be a break in the wire from the fuse box to the window. If you get current then the element may be shot.
good luck,
sj

Thanks, steviej -
I'll check it out. The 92 manual says it's fuse #15 and it is a 30 or 40. The weird thing is that it shows it just to the right of the instrument panes fusebox with all the blade fuses.
I'll look for the coin tray...
