Anyone change there filter on there transmission them selfs? I changed the filter and it wasnt even dirty.Im pretty sure the case hasnt ever been of , it had a excellent what looked to be stock seal.

 

I never even knew there was a filter on the tranny!

 

The filter is actually a screen with fine perforations. I usually just clean mine with gasoline, dry thouroughly and reinstall. If I recall, there is a rubber bushing between the screen and the the tranny that you may want to replace and that usually comes with a new screen.

 

Yeah, its a screen. When I asked the Dealer for the filter kit for my tranny, the parts guy laughed and said "these cars don't need a filter, they are too well designed"..... I kept my mouth shut, but couldn't help thinking about all those Chevy Powerglides that I cleaned the tranny screens in in the 70's.....

 

The filter kit is like 15$ i think anyone would just use a new one! Yes there is a gasket.

The pan gasket the dealer sells is the black stuff in a tube (like RTV). It is a mess to work with, and from what my seasoned mechnic brother tells me, is not the best thing to use on this type of assembly, as he has seen too many leaks and ecess material break off inside the pan. You can get a "real" pan gasket at a "real" parts house.

 

Yea a real gasket from napa with the filter.
