I just bought my 99 GS400 and noticed my radio display is missing LCD segments. I am getting it replaced while I still have the warranty for another month.

I did a search on here and noticed that the display is pretty common to go bad. Just worried that new one I will get from the dealer will go out after a few years while my warranty is no longer around. Has Lexus address this issue in a bulletin recall?

My 98 went bad last year. This is the 3rd time I've read someone report this problem over the past year. I've got 2 buddies with 98's and they haven't seen the problem, YET.

I'll guess that Lexus will recall whenever there is a safety issue or the problem will cost more to fix it after it breaks and it is under warrantee.

For the radio I would think they'll replace it on an as needed basis. After the warranty, you might have a strong arguement to get it done for free, if you can site several other owners with the same problem.

It would be interesting to know if this was a bad string of LCD's from the LCD vendor and that the problem was resolved quickly, say within a few months or less. This assumes they caught the problem, instead of finding out about it 3 years down the road.

Is this a Pioneer or a Nak? Mine is a Pioneer.

Had mine replaced. 99 GS

The service guys are aware of the Pioneer LCD issue. They said they have seen a few prior to mine. I have a pioneer head unit in my truck and the screen occasionally acts up too.

A week before I turned in my leased 99 GS300 one of the LCD segments went out. I had the standard Pioneer system.

I have a 98 GS300 that had the factory warranty expire last month. I swear, 1 day after the warranty expired the radio display started to go bad. At first everything displayed about 1/2 the time. Now parts of the lcd display don't show anything at all. Hopefully I don't lose my presets otherwise I'll have to play "Name That Station" to get them reset.

Same thing happened on my 99 GS300 before i turned it back into the dealer...Parts of the radio display on the right would go in and out of working. I figured it was the dealers problem...

No, recalls are for safety related items. There is no tsib also. I've seen this condition before, but not enough to warranty a recall.

LCD fade out
So has anyone had the dealer fix this outside warranty?

My '98 GS300 has lost a couple of the top portion of the segments but I can still figure out the CD track or station. Plus it seems to come and go a few times with the temperature, lost when the interior is warm. Living in Austin, TX makes it all too common to have them missing.

I think this is a very common problem with Lexus, as I've read about it many, many times. My '97 LS400 with the base Pioneer system has a bad display, it barely shows ANYTHING at this point, and it was bad when I bought my car with 53K miles.

I have chosen to live with the problem for now, but I hear it's about $300 to get fixed.....can anyone corroborate that?

My display is experiencing similar problems noone has talked about a fix for the problem. I may have togo on ebay and buy a used one, but then i may run into the same problem!
