I retired my Snap-On impact gun after trying out a coworker's IR. Not only was it lighter and quieter,it broke stuff loose faster than the Snap-On,and the Snap-On has a higher torque output rating.
Try www.harborfreight.com They have a lot of IR products. Sears has a 1/2" drive Craftsman impact gun that's actually a rebadged IR with chrome accents (really,it's shinier than the IR version)
I could care less about shine, I work not look. I noticed at wal-mart that they carried air tools called powermax or something like that. I would have normaly blown it off but I noticed that they were more expensive than the campbell hausfeld and under the powermax name it said "by Ingersoll Rand". Well, same thing or not?
The little bit we use the tools almost any will do.I try to avoid chinese communist products.Because some day they are going to fire that metal back at us.
I use the IR for the 3/8 and 1/2 impact wrench applications. Specifically, the IR tools that I use are made of composite material--very light yet very powerful. You can get them from Sears or eBay. Agree with Lextech above, Sears has the rebadged IR under the name of Craftsman- that's actually what I have for my 3/8. Only thing with the Craftsman chrome body is it can get scratched while the IR black body is impervious to scratches.
The best air tools to buy are Ingersoll Rand (IR), all the guys use em, Nascar,ALMS, etc. Snap On and Mac would be next. Some Craftsman stuff, but not much, their impact guns are made in Japan.
Personally, I always buy IR, it's more expensive, but u never have a problem.
