Default Recommnedation for an ODBII scanner

I have a 2003 RX300, and would like to own a ODB2 scanner so I can diagnose and reset codes.

Can someone recommend a model? i don't need anything super fancy, and there seems to be a lot of models out there.

This is the one I currently use, http://www.amazon.com/Autel-MaxiScan...6813973&sr=8-1

Runs CAN protocol even for current vehicles and does a check of readiness monitors). It won't do anything fancy like read O2 sensor readings or anything like that though, but for the price (and sometimes it's lower on Amazon), it's the best bang for the buck I've found yet.

Depending on what you are looking for, I loved my Scan Gauge 2.
It is a basic scanner, but can come in quite handy for a lot of data reporting.

I'm loving my Actron CP9180. I have had it about 4 years. Reads and clears codes well. It has an 'english' read out so you don't have to look up what the codes mean. Good Luck!

Using the ScanGuage II for several years on Oldsmobile, Lincoln, now Lexus ES350. Works beautifully and simply. Check www.scangauge.com

I was looking at getting one from Auto Enginuity http://www.autoenginuity.com with an "enhanced" add on so I can play with some of the other settings in the vehicles (RX300, SC430 & LS430 UL) - program smart key, air suspension heights, disable DRL, sensitivity for the rear view mirrors - anyone familiar with this one? Here's all what they claim it able to read with the Toy/Lex enhancement: http://www.autoenginuity.com/Toyota-...tems-List.html

I am open to suggestions if there's something better.

thanks-
alan

I got mine from OBDCOM(google them). It runs off of a laptop but has a bunch of fancy features. The price is the lowest I've seen for the amount of features. I've used it twice to read/clear codes.

Q: Checked out the OBDCOM one and I was wondering, have you been able to work with the Lexus Personalized Settings at all?

Did anyone use the Auto Enginuity software, because I found on their website that there are Enhanced PC Expansion which cost additional bucks for each car make. Wondering what to go for now. I have Three cars that I need to check: 98" LS400 - 2003" LX470 - 2005 LS430.

Any suggestions...

I've heard a lot of good things about Scan Gauge II and also Ultra Gauge.
It is my understanding that both of those tools are of the type that you can set up on your dash and leave em hooked up to provide constant feedback. So they can be used more like a real time monitoring tool then just a scanner to lookup codes and remove codes.

If you are looking for something solely for code retrieval and code removal then there are lots of inexpensive options on the market. I have an Actron CP9125 OBDII scanner that I got for $30 delivered on ebay. If I had it to do over again, I'd prolly get the Ultra Gauge for $60 and have the capability to monitoring the system while driving as well as normal code retrieval/removal.

Good luck.

www.innova.com Best scanner ever! If you can't retrieve live data, there's no point on getting a scanner. Get what you paid for!

How can I determine which one to get...is there one that works better with a 98 GS4? I am reading up on them but I am not 100% sure on which to get.
