The dealer did mine but I bet any tranny shop could recommend some really good brands to use. Just make sure that it can be used in your tranny first (Japanese motors and tranny are alot more advance than American ones!)

Yes; it is a part of the 30k milage service I think; check your OM.

Not sure what you mean by "outside", but if you want to do it yourself, or at another shop, use only the Toyota Type IV fluid which can be had at a dealer location (someone was looking online as well....) Again, this has been discussed numerous times, and more than one tech has made this recommendation, as well as Mo @ SRT, and I think both have the requisite knowledge to make the distinction.

I'll post the same thing as everyone else, just like the question posed.. ;-)

Use toyota type IV fluid only! Yes you CAN use dexron, but it's not recommended, and besides toyota fluid should go in a toyota.

Just busting your chops, we all know what you mean.

There's only one brand and it's a Toyota Type T-IV.

The manual states that using Dexron type can damage the tranny although it can be used for emergency purposes.

I hope lexus reads this.Everyone of my Mercedes has had a drain plug on the torque converter. The lexus do not.So all you could drain at home is about two Quarts. You have to take it to someone that has the equipment to get the fluid out of the torque converter. If they have the machine, even the village idiot can do the change, make sure you use the type 4 toyata fluid.

I know the village idiot! and he has this machine!!!
I had a hard time trying to explain to him why I didn't want to run Dexron through it...Finally in about 2 weeks on his day off he is going to help me setup the machine with 4 gallons of TYPE 4 to flush out the system!!! (the fluid alone cost me $110 )

Exclamation FOUR GALLONS?

...when you are finished, can I have the two gallons left over for my own flush?

By the way, for those of you that want to change the ATF yourself, here's a good discussion on what's involved:

He's not going to have 2 gallons left over after the flush, that's the same thing I thought when I did my car, but with the machine flush it will take about 3 1/2 gallons of trans fluid.

Aloha
