Default How long do break pads last?

I have a '06 ES330 (about 40k miles). My break works well but I wonder how long the pads will last...

Depending on your driving habit. If you do a lot of stop N go, heavy braking or riding the brake then it will not last long. Usually the brake pads on the 06 ES will last about 35k-45k miles. You may need to get it inspect just in case.

I've had 3 toyota's and they all seemed to need rear pads at around 50k. I bought my 02 GS with 34k on it did the rear pads at 54k. She has 94k on her now and I still havent done that front pads. I dont know if they did them before I bought the car so they have at least 60k probably the whole 94k on them

Ive seen pads worn down at 25k on an ES.. and ive seen them last to almost 60k (on my moms car). It all depends on driving habits... its a good idea to have them checked out whenever your car is in for oil changes anyway.

^ True I do alot of highway. when I city or suburb drive I never really press them hard. I drive far "ahead" and gradually brake over a greater distance.

Pads have clips that will make sound when they wear down to a certain level. No need to change it before that.

Don't rely on the clips. Some pads don't have the clips. Some clips rust and break off from the pad. When I do my tire rotation, thats when I check my brake pads and free play of the wheels.

Some times with a small mirror you can get a peek at the inner pad, I can usually see the outer pad even with stock wheel still on

Already said, but depends on driving habits and how much of local/highway split you do. If you do about 80% highway, your pads can probably go 50K, but if you're doing metropolitan stop-n-go traffic all day, then the pads will be lucky to see 20K.

Also, the wear sensor or squeek sensor should not be replied upon as the main means for determining the wear of the pads. The sensors are usually only on one side (inner pad) so if you have premature wear on the outer pad, you could be down to metal and still the inner pad would not squeak.

I would say once you feel any sort of grinding or squeaking, then it's time to take a look.
