Does anyone know the exact dimensions of the A/C filter for a '95 SC400? I checked for mine and there was no filter element in it so I can't measure it to cut a new one from a furnace filter.

Don't you have the plastic trim piece for the A.C. filter?
If so, just measure the plastic trim/housing piece the filter slips into and your good to go.

Thats going to be tough. The ac filter in your car is unique. The opening is small, so the filter comes in two pieces. First you must slide one piece in and up, then slide it back into the ac box. There are also grooves cut on the side of the filter so the two pieces interlock. Then the second piece slides up and in also, then locking the two pieces together. Also, both pieces are made to bend in the middle because they are so tall and lack of space from the floor to the ac box.
I think your better off just finding the best price for a factory ac filter.
I agree, the filter for the SC is an oddball, so I bought one from Carson. I will probably change it once a year, and may look at saving the plastic frames from the two filter elements and cutting and fitting 3M filter medium to fit, a few dabs of hot glue, see how it does.
My '93 didn't have a filter, and judging from the amount of guck that fell out in my face when I opened the little door, I doubt if it ever had one, even though the a/c unit has the slot, etc. The "D. Opt." is Dealer Option - when the car is bought new the buyer can have the filter installed, it's a profit center for the dealer, just like the oem cell phones, which are all instelled locally too.
Like DevilDog says, this is a tricky filter and getting it in right the first time you try it is tough. The filter is made by Denso and comes with an instruction sheet which takes a little noodling. Take your time and be sure the door fits just right before you put the wingnuts back on.
I replaced mine on my gs for 30 bucks, bought it from Kragen Auto parts. Next time I will try washing it. Does anyone know where the filter is located on a 2000 ES300, I open the glove but it isn't the same at the GS, do I have to take the glove off. Is the filter the same for all cars? Thanks

It's more complicated for the previous-generation ES. I've seen it posted a few times in these forums. If I remember correctly, it's not in the glove box, but under either the passenger or driver floor.
I bought a 3M Filtrete (http://www.3m.com/us/home_leisure/fi...11_ultra.jhtml) for $15 (10"X25"). I cut it approx to the same size as my RX filter. The OEM filter has a plastic edge that fits into the clips and ensures a snug fit. How do I do the same with my 3M filters?
