I have a 2000 GS4 and recently when i try to start the car it clicks and the starter does not work. After I try it a couple times the starter works. I replaced the stock battery about 2 months ago and the problem went away for a bit. It seems to be croppin up again. has anyone had this problem? Any advice?
Most likely your starter goes bad. If you do the search about GS400 starter you will find a lot of threads. The starter is located under the intake manifold BTY.
cali400ox - Like everyone said it is your starting starting to fail. I have a 2000GS400 as well and I had the exact same problem you are having now. If you search the threads you will find numerous threads on this issue. I went through all the troubleshooting but in the end, it was the starter. As you already know this is not a cheap fix since they have to take apart your intake manifold to get to the starter. If you have a mechanic that you go and trust then it will cost you less. Its the labor that kills you on this replacement.
Get the starter from Park Place / Plano Lexus. They were about 40 percent cheaper than the dealership. Saves money. Expect about 300 or more in labor alone. I think it's about 3.5 book hours?
Guys, just go to any rebuild shop and get the 2 copper contacts/brushes and replace them in the existing starter shell. $10 all day long. I have been doing this in my cars for 20 years and I have a 1991 4runner with the original alternator(yes same procedure here too) and starter shells. The contacts wear down in size over time and you just need to replace them with new ones. This isn't always the case, but works 95% of the time from what I have seen.

i have a 99 2GS w/ 89K and i had to rebuild mine this summer. same exact symptoms and problem. i paid a local alternator rebuilder $120 to have my OEM rebuilt. took approximately 2 hrs.
