Default Indeed- no shame in redneck engineering, but it's gotta work!

I fully agree and in fact I’ve posted some DIY’s myself.
There’s nothing better than rigging up something that works for a lot less than what the stealership charges.

And when I saw how expensive the OEM filters were, I also explored using furnace filters instead, but once I saw the design of the Denso filters and how they fit inside the filter box (see the photos I posted above), it was obvious to me that it wouldn’t work.

To elaborate, I just didn’t see something like the Corolla solution working for the SC300/400 for two reasons:

1) Because of the tight clearance when inserting, the OEM filters are not stiff but rather made to bend in the middle.
2) There are two filters that have to slide in, and they have to mesh up against each other to form a tight seal.

While you certainly could cut up a furnace filter into the same two shapes and stuff it in, they won’t have that stiff plastic frame of the OEM filters, so I don’t see them sealing up properly against each other, or against the sides of the filter box.

And if you don’t get a tight seal, then the circulating air will leak past the filter, defeating its purpose.
