throttle body cleaning?
Had my LS430 in for an oil change at Toyota and they recommended a 40K service which I refused since I recently had a 30K service at Lexus.
Later in the day I got a call and they recommended cleaning the throttle body, fuel injectors, and aligning the tires. I refused this too. The guy told me the throttle body was filthy and my tires were wearing unevenly and were in bad condition. However my tires are like new and show no wear to me. And the car drives straight.
I am considering cleaning the throttle body myself and adding an addtive to the fuel.
Should I even bother? I think they were just trying to pad the bill. What are your thoughts?

Pad the bill, probably... there is a good chance they are just trying to sell you some preventative maintenance items...
first off, the throttle body on every car with any sort of PCV system and/or EGR system is going to be dirty... like filthy dirty... it is a good idea to clean it, but don't expect it to stay clean long... now, how dirty is too dirty??? great question... clean it yourself with a $4 can of carb cleaner and some rags and be done with it... fuel system treatment for the injectors... not really sure if this stuff helps or not... it doesn't hurt... go to www.bitog.com and read the reviews on which one to buy...
now, as far as alignment goes... you should really check the tires more thoroughly before condemning their account... to do this, check tread depth across the tire and see if it is consistent... also, run your hand along the inside shoulder and the outside shoulder both directions - if it is smooth one direction and not the other, then you have cupping - alignment and/or lack of rotation can cause this... uneven tread wear from rib to rib of the tire is also typically alignment related and may be hard to notice just by looking....
race cars drive straight, but they sure wear out tires fast (and OMG look at the alignment specs they run)
