oe battery life?

Just replaced my OEM battery ('01 ES w/ 78,000 miles) with a NASCAR-branded Exide battery (made by Johnson Controls) from the local Monro auto shop. Includes 2-yr free replacement warranty and 7-yr pro-rated warranty. The Monro manager told me the life of a car battery has more to do with the quality and mechanical/electrical build of the battery, rather than the age, mileage and use of the car.
The battery on my 00 Gs400 just died yesterday. Well I hope it was the battery and not something else. I took the car out and drove about 5 miles then as I was backing into my driveway I saw the Navigation screen was reseting every 3 sec. Once I finished parking I turned off the car and then tried to start it but all I heard was *click click click*.
The weather here in NY just became cold the past few days so maybe the battery just got cold and died. Its an original Lexus battery and the car was was bought April 2000 so I guess 43 months is long enough for it..
The funny thing was when I took out the battery the inidicater on the battery still read "ok" ( it was a blue circle with a red dot in the middle). I am going now to Autozone and pick up something better. Nothing fancy just better.

As for Sears DieHard batteries, they used to use Johnson Controls exclusively. Then Sears started using Exide and Deca/East Penn. as well.
It's not only the initial manufacturing quality, but also how the battery was treated from the factory to your car, which would include the amount of time the battery was allowed to self-discharge and eventually sulfate. Interstate has the most reliable distribution program. You usually don't go wrong with one of their batteries. Lexus uses Interstate for their replacement batteries in the US. Japanese-made Lexus' come stock with either Panasonic or Yuasa (the big battery brands in Japan). Like most Japanese-made items, they're of high quality. I've heard of OEM Panasonics going a decade+.
