Question New Disc Brake Rotor Question - 94 LS400

1994 LS400 - 300,000 miles - I need to replace my front and rear rotors and saw several sets advertised on Ebay. Can anyone tell me what is the main difference in drive and performance of the standard OEM Rotors versus those that are drilled/slotted and advertised by most on EBAY ($200.00 for a full set of 4 with ceramic pads) and why I would or would not want to use the drilled/slot rotors.

Mine have not been replaced in approx. 150,000 miles and are warped by a small amount, can feel the vibrations when stopping or slowing at high speeds and have replaced the pads about 20K miles ago.

Thanks for your information and advice

JMO - I would check out the tirerack.com and go with the Brembo's that they sell and whatever pads they recommend. I've used Brembo's from there a on a few different cars with great results. The Brembo rotors are not slotted or drilled but you don't need anything racy like that for an LS400. The cost is not that bad at all and the quality of the rotors is great.

I wouldn't use eBay rotors unless they're overstocked OEM or reputable aftermarket ones. I'm running Bradi rotors up front, made in the same foundry as Brembo. I've never had luck with Raybestos or most aftermarket brands.

I also run Bradi Rotors that are un-slotted & un-drilled.
Shop around, they are not hard to find.

Drilled rotors can get hirline cracks from the heating/cooling process. Slotted rotors are better, but either slotted or drilled provide less surface area for the pads to press against and are used in racing applications due to their ability cool quicker. No one using them on the street uses brakes with the intensity racers do, so I'd go with a U.S. made rotor such as from NAPA premium or OEM Lexus. China rotors use lower quality steel and warp quicker. Slotted/drilled are mostly cosmetic when used on the street.

Napa/Carquest/Federated all use Raybestos parts and Affinia doesn't make their brake rotors/drums in the US anymore.
