Default PIAA wipers

Early report.

Today I washed the 911 after having the wipers on for about three months. The water spray definitely beaded up in the wiper swipe area indicating that the PIAAs do leave some sort of residue that prevents water from sheeting on that area of the glass.

The PIAA site says it's silicone. Guess I'll find out next week. Ordered a set for both the RX and the GS.

I was considering the PIAA blades also.
Has anyone tried the windshield washer fluid that has Rain-X in it?
I thought Rain-X only worked if you allowed it to dry then wipe it off.

Taka, almost a year on the PIAAs now; still no streaking, no chattering. Considering that I was replacing blades every 2-3 months on the RX (atypical; haven't talked to any other owners nor read any posts suggesting short blade life on RX), I'm very happy with 'em. Ordinarily I replace blades every year just as a matter of routine, but I'm going to see how long these last before I have to order new blades.

Highly recommended!!

Your talking about the Rain-X additive (pink solution). Right? If so I have and it works great. I use distilled bottle water rather than tap water so it does not clogg the nozzle. Because it is does not last as long as if you use the regular Rain-X product every morning I would just press the washer fluid button and it puts a thin coat of Rain-X on the front windshield.

I am nervous about the Rain-X stuff. I've used regular rain-X before. I like the clearing action but it eats away at standard rubber blade refills very quickly (Bosch and Trident that I know of). The blades started to leave streaks and smudges at about 3 months. 6 months if I didn't use rain-X.

I haven't put in on the Lex yet. I may opt for the PIAAs first.

Thanks for the info.

Unhappy

steviej, I'm not sure the RainX is eating the blades but rather that it may just be wearing off parts of the windshield (it is just a glass wax, after all). I had similar experiences back when I first started using it, ie, it'd work well for a little while but then start streaking way sooner than I had been used to. I could re-treat the windshield and it would stop, but I decided just to remove the stuff from the front and just use it on sides and rear. (Some posters have had better luck than I have with use on the front glass, I admit.)

But the PIAAs have a packet of something which is used to pre-treat the windshield and it smells like RainX!! And the glass beads water just as it did with RainX, the only difference being that I've not had any streaking in the 11 months I've had the PIAAs on............I dunno. But I'm sold on the new blades!

Thanks mooretorque, ya sold me.
I already found where I can get them in my area.
I will put them on Sat. except Sat, it is supposed to be in the teens. I think that may be too cold to apply packet of stuff.
I just have to decide, black or carbon fiber color. If all else fails, I can go back to the blades that are on there now. I really don't have any complaints, I'm just bored.
