Default Synthetic Oil Once & For All???

This guy on the job was telling me that once you switch to synthetic oil then you MUST stick with it. See I was telling him that I use synthetic in winter and switch back to regular oil for the rest of the seasons. Is this true or not? No one here on CL or even the service guys has mentioned if there were any drawbacks to doing this. Honestly I really don't believe what he told me.

Ask them why there is synthetic blend sold on every local auto store.
When one says MUST, ask for data and scientific reasoning.
