Price/Reality check on SC400 caps/rotors
Looking to replace Caps, Rotors, Plugs, and Wires. Here is what I was quoted by someone who has done good work for me in the past:
Caps $41 a piece x 2
Rotors: $21 for 2
Plugs (Denso Iridiums) set of 8 for $224
Wires: $321 (Says its the "complete original setup with hangers and all the other bells and wistles")
Thats $648 for parts.
Said it would also require 3-4 hours labor to do all this work. Not sure what his labor rate is, although it looks like about 80 an hour.
Total Price: $1,080. His shop is in West Chester, PA (45 mins west of Philly)
Sound like a good quote?
Thanks, SWB

Damn! Thats not cheap.....I say buy the parts yourself like on ebay....You can get OEM or even aftermarket...Then go hit someone up for labor thats kinda high if you ask me...

that's WAY too much, you are being charged 3x extra for parts. i bought all those items (denso platinums instead of iridiums) plus 2 gallons of red toyota coolant and a case of type T-IV tranny fluid for less than $250 from the parts counter at a local dealership. the 1UZ motor is the same in either the SC400 or LS400.
the spark plugs wires are ~ $110, there is no need to replace the brackets or other mysterious bells-n-whistles. the plugs shouldnt be more than $5 a piece for denso platinums, rotors are ~$20 each, price for caps looks about right.
got the job done myself with basic hand tools in less than 3 hrs with plenty of breaks for food and drinks.

I paid roughly $350 for Denso Platinum plugs, OEM plug wires (with harness), 2 rotors, 2 caps, oil filter, air filter, and a case of Royal Purple oil.
Your local stealership will beat the price this tool os giving you on the parts by a longshot!!!
Also try www.irontoad.com , which is where I purchased my parts from (except the oil).
Do the work yourself. Spend a Saturday with your SC......she'll love you in the morning for it!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I thought these prices looked a little stiff... Time to hit the threads on how to do this work myself. I have never done more than change a tire and seafoam before!
