Default what's your take on this??

What do you make of this .....When I try to start my car after it has been sitting for a while, (like overnight) it does not want to turn over. The lights come on full inside...the radio works...so I am pretty certain it is not the battery. Would this be the starter..or the alternator? Incidentally, if I turn the key off and turn it quickly to start again, it will start. But, I know eventually my luck is going to run out and it is going to leave me sitting. If I take a quick trip and it is off for 5 to 10 minutes...it will restart right away, but after a couple of hours, it does the mentioned above. Any help would be appreciated.

Default no....

No...there is no clicking noise....there is no noise at all...absolute silence. Like the car was not in park the whole way...but that is not the case. I turn the key...and the inside lights come on..but nothing happens. All the gauges react..the lights react, the radio comes on...but there is no engine turn over noise. Just silence. But, if I take the key back to the off position...and attempt a second time, the engine will then kick over and the car starts. This started about 5 days ago. Still open for suggestions. Thanks

Sound like a bad contact in the starter solenoid. I think it's time for a new starter. If this happen again you may have to cycle the key more than twice to get it start.

I had the same problem on my old SC300, change the starter will cost about $200 (bought in used online- as it turned out it's the same price as buying aftermarket ones). My friend helped me changed it (took about 10 mins). The problem solved after that.

His profile said LX470,but it can be another car. The price to replace the starter can be vary from car to car. It's can be $100.00-$1,000.00.

Yes, it is an LX470 (99) oddly enough, it stopped doing it for a couple of weeks. I thought it had something to do with all the rain we were having. But, within the past week it has started up again. During the rain period, the temps were about 15 degrees higher too....and now temps have dropped to the 40's again in early morning and it is happening again. I am quite puzzled, but pushing my luck by not having it checked. Just cant find a "good" time to take it and leave it over night.

The problem is the starter. This is a very common problem with the LX470.It is a very expensive repair.I do not remember the price of the starter but the labor is around 3.5 to 5 hours. The intake has to come off to get to the sarter (under the intake).

thanks everyone for the starter info...

as of yet, it is still intermittent. car will go for days without it happening, then all of the sudden it will happen again. oddly enough...there have been a few strange "other things" happening. I have just had such terrible luck at the local toyota dealership, I hate to go back to see what is going on they have messed up too many times for me to trust them anymore. left there after dropping $1300 for a 95 k check up only to park my car for 20 min to find a huge puddle of antifreeze on my garage floor. they told me it was a tear in a hose???? i feel if that was the case, anitfreeze would have been splattered everywhere...they had it for 2 and 1/2days the for the 95k, then another afternoon for the hose...too much down time for me!!

as for what is going on now....the light on my dash where the park, reverse, 2 gear etc.......all but the D (drive) will light up. not sure, but i didnt think there was a separate bulb for each letter????? Also....the other day my steering wheel would not come out and go back in when i started my car....now it is fine????? It is weird, and I am sure one of these days all hell is going to break loose and things will really go wrong...im holding my breath.

The bulbs can be replaced as individuals. The whole circuit board has to be disassembled to get to the bulb.As for the steering not retracting,I have not run into any of those problems, except for them making noise.

Suggest you research your area for a recommended Lexus independent mechanic and shop. There are many very good Master Lexus specialists that have opened their own shops around the country.
