2006 2GR-FE Engine Oil/Filter Change How-To
http://members.***.net/n0v8or/avalon_oil_change.pdf
I posted the URL above on another forum here some weeks back. Didn't see this maintenance section at the time.
Some will scream and run when they see "Avalon" at the top of the page.
The 2GR-FE engine fitted in the Lexus and Toyota for 2006 is the same as far as oil/filter change goes.
I got flamed on a Toyota forum by a dealer parts employee for providing this information. He referred to it as "plain ignorant" as these instructions are enclosed in the oil filter kit and he's right, but who would know that until they've seen the kit?
My intent is to help those who prefer to know it was done right by doing it themselves.

Thank You for this information... !
I'm sure we'll see questions on the new filter design and replacement.
2GR-FE
The 2GR-FE is a 3.5 L (3456 cc) version. Bore remains at 94 mm but stroke is reduced to 83 mm. Output is 268 hp (200 kW) at 6200 rpm with 248 ft.lbf (336 Nm) of torque at 4700 rpm. This version features Toyota's "dual-VVT-i", variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust cams.
Applications:
2006 Toyota Avalon
2006 Toyota RAV4 V6
2007 Toyota Camry V6
2007 Lexus ES 350
2007 Lexus RX 350

Regarding the design - it's old. Mecedes used this style in their 126 series V-8s and perhaps other models. Design certainly not limited to MB.
Comments on the WEB I've seen that I find interesting:
a. Design allows for more oil extraction at a reduced cost - no metal casing. Environmental considerations - keeping the EPA happy.
b. One can easily see what the filtering area actually looks like after use.

It centers around the money..
This draws DIY'ers to toyota or lexus for filters, as aftermarkets haven't caught up with the new design. The O-rings replaced is an additional need with the filters.
