Unless they took crappy care of the car and didn't change the oil and damaged cylinder wall and rings, but I dought it. I'm surprised they didn't give you a service history. The guy I bought mine from had all receipts/notes and was using Mobile1. So I kept with using Mobil1 synthetic and last time I used Royal Purple synthetic. I have almost 140,000 miles and no leakes. My oil level hardly changes.

if you plan to switch to synthetic, make sure you do a full motor flush

Mobil 1 Full Synth 5w30. I may switch to High Mileage because of my 106K on the odo, but it runs just as good with the regular stuff.

absolutely do this because chances are the previous owner was not using synthetic and you do NOT want to throw it in because it can mess up your seals and could cause smoking later in life....

mobil 1 is really good oil, but i've always been partial to castrol too....either regular gtx or full synthetic.

A full motor flush. Whats that? Just a normal oil change...drain and refill? Or is there something more involved?

My car just hit 5k miles and i'm taking it in for service tomorrow. My dealer gives me free service for the first two services. 1k, 5k. After this change of oil wears out, about 9-10k i'm planning to put in some high grade synthetic.

Any suggestions?

You don't need synthetic.

My mom's '90 LS400 has 350,000 miles and has used regular 5w30 changed every 5,000 miles its whole life.

It burns no oil.

I put in synthetic on my old car at 146k miles. No leak or burned oil at all. Royal purple was a waste of money for me. I switched to mobile 1 and my wallet couldn't have been happier.

i was reading a lot of stuff about how these engines are designed to run 500K+ with regular oil. the benefit of using synthetic really would not show as most of us wont have the car past 150K let alone 500K

Yes, more involved since there is some old oil left in the block if only drain/fill once. You need to perform the drain/fill routine a few times to remove nearly all the old oil...IMO. After filling oil, run the car for say 30 minutes and repeat drain/fill procedure. Most of the old oil should have mixed well into the new oil...diluted.

Isent that a waist of time/money. You fill up with mobile 1 and in the next oil change it will have mixed completly with the old oil left behind on the engine walls. Your saying that aprox. 5-6 ounces of old oil will somehow damage or cause side affects?.

This isn't like transmissions. You can switch to Mobil 1. I have seen plenty of vehicles down here, over 150,000 KM that have switched to Mobil 1 from a lifetime of dino and no problems.

I have used a Liqui-Moly engine flush to much success.
