Default Should I be using Mobil 1?

I have a 1993 LS400, 133,000 miles.

Bought it two months ago. It's had oil changes every 5000 miles.

I keep reading how many members here use Mobil 1 in their oil changes. To my knowledge my Lexus has always used non-synthetics.

Should I switch to Mobil 1? Is it too late to do so? Will it benefit my vehicle in any way?

Thanks!

Hello,

it is never to late to switch to synthetic. Do you use the 0W40 or 5W50 Mobil1SuperSyn? These 2 are the best oils you can get on the market.

5W-50 is not available in North America, only overseas markets.

I run the recommended viscosity in the owner's manual - Mobil 1 10W-30 Super Syn. No problems at all.

Plus, if you plan on keeping the car for a long time and regularly put in high miles, synthetic oil would be a more reasonable choice, especially in extreme temperature environments.

if you go with synthetic.. you'll blow oil through all of your seals.. i would recommend it at that mileage.. i use maxlife 20w50 and the car performed way better.. noticeable difference...

now many will ask why you use 20w50, and its because it helps keep the seals from leaking. its something i noticed when i used 10w30 and 5w30 before

im doing a similar thing except i have a '95 ls which is bout to hit 129k. im set on switchin to Mobil1 but am not sure which viscosity to use. also, how often should i change it, autozone and kragen said the synthetic could go up to 15k miles between changes but im VERY skeptical about that.

PureDrifter was asking how often should synthetic oil be changed, not the minimum mileage where synth oil should be used.

I change the 10W-30 Mobil-1 synthetic oil for my ES every 5K miles, and intend to keep to that interval. Oil change is the best and cheapest insurance for your car

Read the first line of his message

I do mine every 6500-8000. Just put in the 15K mobil, might leave it for 9K.

I wouldn't recomend that, oil is VERY cheap - considering the protection it provides...

Don't risk it.

Ah jeez, some of the remarks... I changed mine over at 170k or so... it's around 201k now. STILL runs fine.

I just switched to a syn media filter which is better than any standard media filter.

Are you suggesting 31,000 miles between oil changes?

I don't care if Jesus made the filter, you are destroying your motor...
