Hi...am trying to locate where the the Engine moving control Rod is located on my 1997 ES300. I'd really appreciate it if somebody could guide me to the location ...also if you have a picture...that would be awesome

 

I believe it's located in the engine mount area, although it may not be immediately viewable (might have to remove certain parts to get at this engine mount and control rod).

 

I think that's the dog bone mount you see on the passenger side of the vehicle. Those bushing tend to crack/deteriorate over time causing your engine to move excessively front to back during startup, shifting and revving.

 

Thanks guys, the only reason I asked was because a member mentioned in one of the other forums that this particular mount was easy to screw off and inspect for wear. If I could see it in a picture/location to determine what it looks like, I would have attempted it this weekend.

 

Heres a pic of the dog bone. I cut and pasted a portion to the right and smudged a line to the actual location. I was too lazy to draw nice color arrows and highlighted boxes. Hope this helps.

Make sure you use a torque wrench, its easy to strip the bolt.

 

Thanks yoji, I've already ordered the torque mount (dog-bone) but was actually planning on changing the front engine mount that sits below the radiator. The parts guy said this should be easy to replace as well, bolt off and on.

Has anybody done this? I'm wondering if there's anything I need to watch out for? Would have been ideal if somebody posted a DIY

 

Support the engine with a jack, have a big pry bar handy just in case.


Tools:

Torque wrench, ratchet , socket, extension, box end wrench, ratcheting box end would be nice.

Also, any idea whats the best location to support the engine on?

 

Just in case the holes dont match up perfectly.. Theres always a chance of that since you have to be pretty much dead on for the bolts to go back in. Once you get the midde bolt mounted to the crossmember, youre in for the other two. Do you know the torque specs?

A piece of wood between the jack and oil pan will work. Make sure the wood is wider than the pan.

Are you doing this on jackstands or ramps? Or do you have a hydraulic lift available?
