Lightbulb

Does any one know if I can put a 80 watt bulb without any risk of melting the wiring or dimmer control. I have and old 94 GS 300. I like to keep the auto light feature intact. The wiring is rated for a 55 watt bulb. If anyone knows the answer, please share it with me.

If anyone has any experience please let me know also. Thank you.

Thumbs down Don't do it!

Don't do it! It will melt the connectors and you will be buying the wiring loom. I've seen it before.

I had 80 watt toucan/eurolite low beams and 100 watt in the high beams for around 3 mths in my 98 gs with no problems, also in my 96 prelude for around two years . I have since switched to the piaa plasms blue in the low beams in my gs. I have seen a early 90s accord with melted harnesses caused by high wattage bulbs. If you wanted to be completly safe you could easly add a couple of relays to take load off of the stock wires, I believe apc or piaa sells these kits already prewired if you do not want to wire them yourself.

Default head light replacement

I just switch out my oem with xenon bulbs. It seems to be ok so far. I'm just curious about the auto switch. Is there a concern with it on when it comes to hi wattage bulbs?

Question

Thanks for those reply. I have now heard from both sides of the fence. Some say it will melt the harness and some say it works fine. I see many bulbs (Xenon, HID look, etc. ) are advertised out there. How safe is it?

I have the auto light activated feature. Is there any harm to the dimmer control when and if the wiring harness melts?

Are they any Lexus service people out there that can give us the facts?
