Twice now between oil changes at 5000 mile intervals my LX has used just about 1 qt. of oil. Lexus says this is within parameters and nothing is wrong. I have never owned a Lexus(two others) that has used oil. Anyone have a similar experience. My LX has 36000 miles.
Yeah, 1qt every 5k is well within the parameters of oil consumption. I beleive 1qt every 1500 miles is on the border of acceptable. Or 1qt every 1000. Something like that. Keep an eye on the consumption, and make sure it doesnt get any worse, and make sure it is all ducumented through your local lexus dealer as to how much it consumes and when. I understand your frustration though...

It is a hard one to answer since some oils have a low Noack Volatility % and some are high. Some are low as 6.5% and some are over 16%.

You never mentioned if you are using regular "dino" oil or synthetic. I'm guessing dino......perhaps switching to synthetic will make a difference...... Let's put it this way, it won't hurt anything by changing over.
My MR2 NA and my RX300 AWD both used about 1 qt of oil b/w changes. My RX is very well maintained, all scheduled maintence at the dealer and I treat it right. I wouldn't worry about it.
I use Mobil 1 BTW and I just turned over to 60,000 miles. No smoke, no leaks.
On mine it varies. Between some changes, the level hasn't changed so I won't need to add anything. Others, I'll have to put in maybe 6-8 oz. of oil. With intervals at 7,500-8K miles.
As long as the oil isn't leaking out, or being visibly burned (blue smoke out of tail pipe), then everything's fine at that loss rate (1 quart/5000 miles). Due to manufacturing tolerances, some engines use up more oils than others.

I agree somewhat. On the flip side if your processes vary that much, something is wrong. You SPC needs to be more dialed in.
All the cars I have owned I have never needed to add more the 1/2 qt due to break in on my diesel. My car does not use much for its 12K drains.
I’ve been experiencing the same loss rate on and off since I really started to check at around 40,000 miles on my GS 300. Last December I went to a Lexus dealer that I had not been to before for my regular change. Didn’t think to ask about what grade/type of oil they were using. After 5,000 miles I checked consumption and I was down over a qt. Took the car to my regular dealer and was told again that it was no big deal. On the other hand, I made a point of asking where in the manual does it say that on a long trip I need to carry a quart of oil…just in case.
No leaks and no visible blue smoke. This is my 8th Toyota product…have never had oil consumption.
Just a guess but agree that there may be some oil consumption on certain types of oil. Performance/fuel economy vs. oil loss.
This Tuesday, I’ve got an appointment with the factory rep and the senior service tec.
