They do consume oil...but with such a new car it indeed can depend on how you have been driving, but also what kind of oil was used. I do not doubt after 3,000 miles (5,000 km) that it the oil consumption can go to half. I know several vehicles my uncle fixes where people bring the vehicles back 3,000 to 4,000 miles later and the consumption is half, but the cars have to work harder up at 7,000+ feet altitude where I live.

What thats crazy! If the car loses half its oil in 3000 miles, how much will you have at 5K? 1QT?

Middle mark does not mean it's half empty

Depend on which car.. From lower mark to upper mark is about 1-2 quarts.. check your manual!!!!!

for such a new car, oil should not be DARK though..

I had a 05 GX and currently an 06 GX and neither of them used any oil during the break in period. But some engines do take a while to break in and seal properly.
