I have look and read the post on the maintance forum, but could not find any step by step instructions on how to drain/fill the ATF. I alrdy have the Type 4 ATF. If someone could please tell me how or know where i can look to get the info. Also is it better to get it change at a service place or do it yourself?

You just need to jack the car up in one of its safe spots enough so that you can access the transmission drain plug. Then loosen the plug and allow the 2-3 quarts of fluid to drain (there's quite a lot more fluid than 2-3 quarts in the transmission/torque converter combined, but 2-3 quarts is all that will drain). I would recommend getting a new transmission drain plug each time it's changed. Then pour 2 quarts of the T-4 back in through the fluid level tube under the hood, check it after the fluid has had ample time to settle, and add as necessary. It's really very simple, easier than changing the oil and filter, IMO.

 

You might want to consider getting the system flushed totally & do a 100% fluid change as opposed to a drain & fill. Then at the same time, you can clean the filter mesh screen & install a new drain pan gasket. Just my 2 cents.

Snap-on had a machine that would take out the old and install the new

A complete 100% fluid change is money well spend considering how much a new tranny would cost. Just makes more sense to do it that way for me.

 

If your car has upwards of 100,000 miles, a flush is advised against . Lexus recommends a drain and refill every 15k. But, a flush is the best way to clean out the tranny . . .at your own risk.

 

I agree. Flushing moves around any particles, debris, and sludge throughout the tranny when you do a flush and sometimes these things get lodged into tight passagways causing your tranny to have problems. Stick with the drain and refill, you will have no problems for sure.
