If somone has a manual car and the car stays in 1st gear, it drives fine but cannot be shifted into any other gear, what is the problem. Thanks in advance.
I believe you just replaced your clutch not too long ago. In this case, it may be the syncho inside the transmission or the fork. But most likely the manual trans is gone.
Or this is one of your friend's car?.
Yup, sounds like a really bad problem internally with the tranny, maybe the synchros. Does it grind at all? Can you shift into 3rd? Could also be the shift linkage
1. if you do not step on the clutch and bring the car to a stop with the brake, does it stall?
2. does stepping on the clutch disengage the engine from the tranny? is it that you physically can't move the shifter or can you move the shifter and the tranny just stays in 1st? Im thinking shift linkage on this one.
3. can you start the car moving from a standing stop in 2nd gear?
4. while moving can you put it in neutral (with or without stepping on the clutch)?
