Originally posted by ntran18 How much did it cost you guys to change the tbelt (water pump, etc) on the SC4? Wanted to get an idea of costs.
Thanks.
A shop quoted me $350 for labor if I gring in the parts. He told me to get the t-belt, tensioner, water pump, crank seal, cam seal, spark plugs, and spark plug wire. While he's changing the t-belt, he told me might as well change these parts as well to save future labor. I have a feeling the parts are gonna run me around $500+. My big bro offered to change the t-belt for me, but evrytime he finishes, there's always 2-4 bolts left and then tells me it's ok, that the car will be fine w/o the bolts. I get really worried!!
I just got mine done but i bought all of the major seals including a AT Tranny gasket with filter tesioners I would recoment replacing them if your cars milage is up there(Tensioners) . For all of the stuff i bought it hit me like 600 thats with break pads.
Hey - Got my timing belt done at 140,000kms and it was recommended by the dealership at 96,000kms. I got a good deal - knock on wood, but the bill was $700CDN. GL
The cheapest T-belt change is no change at all...!
Do as you wish, of course, but be sure you need to change it before you go through the expense. This isn't the first post where I bring up the point that these belts last a very long time, and I'm sure some CL members are sick of hearing me say it, so I'll just recommend you search the forum and what others have to say on the subject.
ok i guess i should say this but im at almost 140k without changing anything..other than rebuilding the alternator..all of my stuff is OEM...from what i heard when i get all of the services done my car will be much faster than before...but its fast already...hehe...take your time (non-interference engine) but make sure you do get the service done soon...its preventative maintenance!
Yes I know if you take care of your car and preform proper maintenance, you will have a lot less trouble with it later on...but I'm not a mechanic and I don't know all the ins and outs of my car yet. I do pay attention to dates and listen to noises when I know things are wrong. I was just commenting on the durability and the quality of OEM Toyota/Lexus parts and how well they last. We all pay good money for a good quality car and want the parts to last as long as possible without replacing repetitively. I will check my belt and take it to my mechanic for a check. Thanks again.
