I went to LexusFlorida. They hit me with a $900 bill to fix the rear main seal and replace the oil pump "O" ring. The transmission they say has to be taken out to get to the gaskets in question. The leak is a $25 dollar gasket. All parts total about $40 dollars, the rest is labor. They charge $99.99 and hour for labor. Good thing they stopped a penny short...........I REFUSE to pay $100 an hour for labor
I just had the 90K mile done and that cost $750. That was two months ago. Should they have not caught this then?
Next time I will at least ask them to kiss me before they bend me over and do their busniess.
Any of you know how long it takes to take off a transmission? They are saying it is a whole day job.

You han probably haggle them down to $800 but I can't see a Lex dealer charging less than that.
A tranny shop would charge less, so I've been told on here. Run a search for "rear main seal" if you want some more suggestions.

It took me more than a day to replace the rear seal in my garage as I was replacing other parts as well while I was at it. I am not a mechanic by trade and it was the first time I replaced the the rear seal. As for the Lex "pros", I would expect them to finish the job in less than half a day, but ofcourse, they work on your car for a bit then on to another car, then another, then back to yours while charging you the whole time so it doesn't matter how you bend over in the Lex shop, you still get "it".

depending on model the rear main seal does require removing the transmission.the gs, ls, and sc pay around 6 hours labor.the es is a bit more difficult because you have to remove the axles, sub-frame and partially the rack and pinion.it pays 10 hours.
