Is it a "mistake" to purchase a new 2024 LX now when it is so close to the end of the 2024 model production? As background, I've owned 2 Lexus cars in the distant past and looking to jump back in with a new LX. The vehicle I'm looking at is scheduled to be built in 2 days and forecasted to arrive mid to late January for delivery. It has the option combinations I'm looking for. The dealer says they don't know when the 2025 models can be ordered. I can't find any information as to when that will happen. It is common for manufacturers to be vague on new model releases to insure the existing "old" inventory will sell. If I take delivery of a 2024 model in January 2025, it is a year old immediately. A year of depreciation on anything is not insignificant. It is generally common to get significant discounts at the end of a build cycle but the dealer does not appear ready to do that. Anyway, just curious of other's perspective.
We do a lot of cross country driving between Chicago, Idaho and AZ in very remote areas so reliability is important. That means we usually keep our cars through the warranty period and then move on to a new vehicle. I'm replacing a 2022 Mercedes GLE AMG 63 S with 35K miles. While I have had zero issues with the car, I can't risk having it break down in the middle of no where in Montana with only 2 Mercedes dealers in the state. If I planned to keep it longer, the depreciation issue is for sure less.
If that is the worry why not get a domestic full sized SUV or Sequoia? Dealer network would be larger.
As far as the original question, yeah you are going to take a hit on the age. I do not think the 25s will be rolling in before February. I ordered a LX700H overland and the dealer doesnt even know what options are available yet.

Our purchase criteria are: Reliability, comfort and size. Going from Mercedes (ranked 30+) and Lexus (#1) is kind of a no brainer. If something does go wrong at least Toyota will look at it. We considered domestic but reliability and comfort are the issue. Spending 10-12 hours in the car each day is a big consideration Size is finally a consideration. Our GLE is pretty much the perfect size, but the LX is the closest fit, albeit a little larger. I'm probably making too big of a deal on depreciation. However, it must be considered. I usually buy new on the front side of the build cycle so buying at the end is a new experience. I appreciate the comments.
I'm in a similar situation, but wished to purchase before the end of the year for business expenses purposes. The deal I got on the 2024 LX was $5,000 below MSRP, with only a doc fee added. I saw many used 2024 LXs that were listed very high (little depreciation credit), fwiw. I don't see much difference between the two model years other than I think you could save a couple thousand when the 2024 arrives.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. I also did a search for "used" 2024 and 2023 LX models, similar to what I am looking for, with pretty low depreciation rates (asking price). I'm leaning towards asking for a deal similar to yours and see what happens. Thanks!
If you are planning to keep the vehicle more than a year or two, the “model year” becomes less and less relevant. There are bigger fish to fry than this, unless you are planning to flip the truck in a year or two.
If you own the truck for 5 or 10 years, the mileage, the level of maintenance and its cosmetic condition become far more important than the vehicle’s model year when it comes time to sell.
Thanks for all the good comments and suggestions. My plan: make an aggressive offer on the 2024. If it is declined, wait for 2025. Not a big deal either way, but every little bit counts.

What discounts are they offering....am planning on trading my 570?
Production for the 2025 models is scheduled to start DEC9.
Great information. I made an offer on the 2024 that was being built now and delivered in January. Crickets from the dealer since I made the offer. Since I didn't get a response to my offer, I called another dealer. They said they are receiving their allocations on Monday, which seems to confirm the 9 December date. It is a no brainer now to wait for the 2025's.
Here is some additional information that might help you: I took delivery of my new LX this weekend and then got a message from the internet sales manager at Tustin Lexus. They have a 2024 (Atomic/Black) that he said they would do $7,000 under MSRP. I had previously told him that I was on the verge of doing my deal and told him he could offer his best and that was it. By the time he got back to me, I had already pulled the trigger and I'm happy (below). His name is Trevor Castle. Good luck.
Very timely and helpful updates. I made a deal on a 2024 LX with similar discount noted above. I have a contingency for a 2025 model and will switch if the allocation fits my options list and delivery timing. All is good.
