Default Order Lead Times

Hey, I searched the threads but I didn’t see any comments regarding lead times. I placed an order for an LX 600 at my local dealer at the end of June. They couldn’t give me much information regarding the likely production time, or whether it would ultimately be a 2024 or 2025 model. Within about 3 weeks the dealer texted me and said my order had been accepted by Lexus. The next step would be getting a build sheet to confirm the specs were correct for my build. No guidance on the timing of the production, other than probably about 5 months from acceptance, which would put it into December. It could be sooner or later (not a very helpful observation). Does anyone have any recent experience with ordering an LX 600? My main specs are the Luxury trim, Manganese Luster, black interior, appearance package, 18 inch dark gray wheels (this LX will see some rocks and dirt, so no to the 22 inch), adjustable height suspension. Plus some minor lighting options, e.g. door and cargo sills.

I was told you can’t order and just need to wait until something comes in that meets your specs. Deposit and allocation.

Ended up getting one 1,400 miles away that met my specs exactly.

Yeah, that was my experience as well. You call the dealership, give them your specs, and they tell you what they have allocated in the pipeline. Deposit and wait for it to get built, arrive at the port and brought into the dealership.

I'm currently waiting for a white / palomino luxury with appearance package. It seems everything getting built has the black appearance package.

I was told by a dealer GM in your region they only order Luxury with appearance package. Its like the regional orders (all New Jersey port arrivals).

Alternatively, my region they only come with the rear seat entertainment.

I actually got one out of VA to get what I want, 1,400 miles away.

Thank you all very much for responding. Well, I’m puzzled. Back in June when I discussed what I wanted, the dealer found nothing at all close to my specs. They were willing to place an order. They—in theory—submitted the order and in a few weeks (maybe 3?) my salesman called and said Lexus accepted the order, but it would be a few months before we got the build sheet, scheduling, and then the VIN. Should in infer that this is bull poop? That they’re just twiddling their thumbs hoping something arrives, somewhere, meeting my specs in a few months? That no real order was submitted? I’d talked to more than one individual in the dealership who indeed said the most expeditious route was to take something unallocated that was close to my specs arriving over the next few months. I’m not interested in compromising very much for a vehicle that will cost me about $125,000+ out the door with tax and license. It may be the dark grey 18” wheels that are an option with the appearance package that are causing the hang up. How do I determine who’s telling the truth? Could it be possible that your two dealers simply didn’t want to order a vehicle for you so they said nope, we can’t do that? And I sure as heck don’t want to pay for a rear entertainment system. Zero need for that. Ai yi yi. I wish I trusted dealers more than I do.

I spoke too soon. Salesperson called on Friday after emailing the build sheet and VIN. My new LX 600 was built on 9/19, should be on the ship from Japan by 9/30, arriving Long Beach/LA by 10/15, and at the dealer in Palm Springs after port prep and trucking about a week or two later. So build occurred 9-10 weeks after I placed the order with the dealer, and about 7-8 weeks after Lexus accepted the order. Very excited to get the exact trim/color/equipment I wanted. I mentioned I’d heard from reliable sources that some dealers in some regions said Lexus wouldn’t take orders; you just had to wait until an LX 600 arrived somewhere that was unallocated and an acceptable match. He said he’d heard that, but it wasn’t a Lexus policy. Beats me, but I’m glad mine is built and on its way soon. Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I appreciate your input.
