Default Surprisingly good gas mileage wtf lol

110 mile road trip to Chattanooga between 80-90MPH plus stuck in B2B traffic for 30 mins.

What a pleasant surprise! It’s rated for 17HWY and in my experience my cars always got worse, not better. I always thought EPA was optimistic.

We plan on driving to the corner of the Earth and back so this is nice!

My guess is I have a well-broken-in engine.

The MPG on the display can be a little optimistic compared to the calculated MPG if you divide your gallons of gas used by miles driven. But regardless, 18+ MPG is definitely achievable, especially on long highway stretches without a lot of speed changes. I drove 1,000 miles two weeks ago (FL to MD) and averaged 18.5 at mostly 75-85 mph.

i was at 19mpg but with 65 mph cruise for almost the whole tank trip to tx. Its hard to coast at that speed since everyone passes you.

More than one road test/comparo (one was Motor Trend) of the LX delivered better MPG than EPA rated, at least my gen ('13-'15). Every other truck tested was worse (some way worse) than EPA ratings in that MT comparo.

I'll take it, lol. I wasn't expecting any more than 15 on the highway.

Thanks for the link to the MT article--hadn't seen that one. I wasn't expecting to see anything above the EPA rating on the highway either, especially since my 4Runner V8 (4.7L) struggles to get 17mpg on the highway and it's over a 1,000 lbs lighter then the LX and has ~120 less HP! It is a 5-sp auto vs a 6-sp in the LX, so I'm sure that helps a bit. But was still a pleasant surprise.

Default LX570 Gas Mileage

I’ve seen 19 mpg driving at 80 miles per hour through Montana in my 2018 LX570. The engine was only turning 2000 rpm’s in normal mode. I assume the 8 speed transmission had a lot to do with that.

It's about the same with the 6 speed older ones. Just about at 2kRPM at 80mph, as you experience.

My '13 Land Cruiser with the 6-speed runs 80 mph with rpm's just a little over 2000. As was posted, speedo's mpg is approximate. Best to divide miles by actual gallons from the gas pumpr if you're looking for accuracy.

Yes, I've gotten 18 to 19 mpg on the dash read out when cruising at highway speeds. Seemed like the faster I go, the better mpg!!! LOL

tooling around in my 2018, mostly highway miles, i get 17.6 mpg (actual fuel used measurement at the pump).
if you run the test, fill up the tank, wait 30 seconds, then top it off again.
do the same when you are done with the test. then divide miles traveled/gallons used

Haven't done much lately but stop and go driving with a heavy foot (5.7 is a fun monster), but I'm barely cracking 11 lol. I don't even wanna know what kind of MPG this thing would get in Los Angeles, the gridlock; I could barely break double digits in my LS430 there which, for a V8, gets pretty good MPG.

Yes, the 5.7 is fun, more so than the 4.7 that used to be my DD in a Land Cruiser. I’d noticed terrible gas mileage in my LX here just West of Los Angeles. Not long ago when I filled up the displayed range was only 233 miles. Next fill up I calculated that I, too, was just breaking 11mpg Yes, the 5.7 can be fun.

The 100 was an exceptional truck but it did have a weakness and that was that it was underpowered, even though the UZ engine itself is a fantastic V8. I don't mind terrible MPG as long as I get something out of it, like the feeling of you moving the asphalt when you step on it with this. I hate it for people perhaps with not a lot of money who drive ollllddd trucks and vans that get horrendous MPG, and of course now that gas has jumped in price it's even worse for them.

I'm just saying, I wouldn't want a gas guzzler if it wasn't "fun" in the way you and I describe it with the 5.7.
