Default Differential and Transfer case oil

I would be replacing differential and transfer case fluid on my 2017 LX570. Which brand you guys recommend? Last time I went with Toyota OEM. These are expensive than others. Just want to know other options before I make the purchase.

For TC should I go with 75 08885-81080 or can use Differential fluid. Also what's the difference between 08885-02506 and 08885-02906 75W-85 fluids?

thanks

I run Mobil 1 75w90 in front, rear, and transfer case. By the case on Amazon is the cheapest place that I've found. About $11 per quart versus $20 per quart when if I have to buy it locally.

Would 75W-90 make any difference compared to 75W-85. Reason I am asking that sometime during winter if I park my vehicle outside I get flashing lights for 4WD. If I drive half a mile and then restart it goes away. Would changing it to 90 make it worse or not? Thanks

I would be surprised if it would cause an issue like that. I've run 75w-90 in the transfer cases of my last few Toyota / Lexus vehicles without any issues and that's living in the northeast with cold snowy winters. Mobil 1 is full synthetic so it shouldn't thicken up with low temperatures. I just sold my 2005 LC with 237k and that had Mobil 1 75w-90 in both differentials and transfer case since it hit the 100k mile mark.

Is there any correlation between the flashing 4wd light and rain?

No correlation with rain
If I put my vehicle in 4WD and drive few hundred feet and then park overnight in cold, no issues for next month or so. This started to happen after the first replacement. I used original Toyota specified fluid even for TC. The only thing I can think of it's overfilled. My tech is Lexus certified tech and any service he had performed on any of my vehicle is absolutely perfect. Yet mistakes can be made so I am not ruling this out completely. I would try this fluid because don't wanna pay 38 per quart for Toyota 75-85 and almost 90 per quart for TC fluid

The minor difference in weight between 75-85 and 75-90 is nothing. The ravenol transfer case and gear oils are excellent, being high quality and full synthetic. They cost more then the commonly used valvoline or mobil, but much less then toyota fluids. I think ravenol and redline are the only aftermarket brands making a true 75W for the transfer case if you want to follow the exact specs.

After all the research and help from members on this forum, I decided to go with OEM fluid. Costly, but peace of mind
Thanks everyone for your invaluable input

Default Valvoline 75W-90 Full Synthetic (Flex Fill)

I changed my differentials and transfer case lubricants around 3,000 miles ago, and no issues at all. I used Valvoline's 75W90 full synthetic, and this past winter is the first winter in a while that I did not get the flashing 4WD indicator lights. I'd have no problem using Mobil-1, either, but I found a really good price on Amazon for the Valvoline. As an aside, my fuel mileage didn't change at all.

The flex fill came in real handy for this DIY maintenance job, too.

I'm an OEM kind of guy, but OEM lubricants are overrated and costly. Fear not - Valvoline or Mobil-1 75W-90 Full Synthetic is the way to go.

Default Transfer Differential kit

I bought this Ravenol kit to do both my differentials and transfer case. Takes the guesswork out buying the right fluids and will save you a few bucks from purchasing toyota’s unicorn blood.
