Cross shopping LX570?
Wife and I are heavily interested in a 2018+ LX570. She prefers a 2020+.
Having had 2 Rx350s and an LS430, we really enjoy the reliability and ride quality.
The LX570 is at the top of our list, however our biggest concern is overall cargo room and space for adults. We regularly take a set of grandparents on our trips lately and the RX is cramped. With another child on the way, we will need it to be larger.
We are also interested in a Sienna due to the gas mileage but know the ride quality won’t be the same as a Lexus. Our Honda Odyssey also made it hard for adults to ride in the rear for long periods. But of course minivans are great. We do drive on some mild off road terrain (gravel, rough roads, dirt) near our rural property in the mountains and a van proved to be really rough.
For those of you that shopped for the LX570, did you cross shop with other SUVs? Should I be looking at the Navigator or Tahoe for cargo room?
We previously drove the Telluride and liked it but know long term it might not be large enough, which is also why the new TX isn’t currently on our list.
We will put maybe 15-20k miles on this vehicle per year because of road trips. The LX is at the top because of reliability.

If you end up using the 3rd row seat, then there is very limited cargo space. Also its just OK for very short distances but not for longer drives. When I took a family of 5 to drop off at the airport, I had to force the 5th person to sit in the second row to fit the 5 large suitcases and 5 carry ons. It pretty much filled the trunk. If you need more space, then the Tahoe is a contender but it becomes a balance between reliability of the two brands.
if room is a major consideration (3rd row), then Suburban (and its bros) / Navigator will probably the choice. Ride quality isn't the same as the LX (at least I am speaking at Suburban and Yukon) but the 3rd row and the trunk space are great in these vehicles. Mercedes GLS would be another consideration (I do not like BMW sry) but again space wise GM / F beats the crowd.
I think Kia Telluride might even a bit larger than LX570 inside.
What would be the difference 2018 and 2020 LX? I think got LED reverse light that might be about it.
Also looked at Sienna but they have issue with condensation getting into the oil for short trips (we would need short trips for school pickups). This is not a problem on most cars. Supposively, the water makes it into the oil pan turns into milkshake, so much you will see the oil level raise in dip stick

you are right about the Telluride. It’s a great vehicle. Enjoyed driving it. I felt a little cramped in the back but I wouldn’t be sitting back there haha. I do prefer a higher ride height though (LX, Range Rover, truck based SUVs etc) but that is in no way a dealbreaker, hence the van consideration.
seems to be an “extreme cold weather” issue

Drove the Navigator, not impressed at all...felt cheap (sorry) The Engine (V6) felt wrong ... The seat wasn't as comfortable as the LX. Yes it did have alot more room (everywhere felt alot bigger) it was rattle free though.

I would give the TX another look, because if your biggest concern is cargo space and rear seats for adults, the whole purpose of the TX is to address those areas. I think it will be much more comfortable in the back compared to LX and you (most likely) won't have to compromise on reliability (compared to most non-Toyota brands). TX is longer than LX and has much more legroom for the 3rd row with 20 cubic feet of space behind the 3rd row. It's big without being gargantuan...
How did road noise compare? Biggest things for us are road noise and comfort. I know I can’t get S-class level quiet (these are big SUVs) but want as close as possible. The L405 Range Rover was extremely quiet so I would love something even close to that.
Unfortuately it was a Hertz rental where I spent a week putting over 2000 miles. It got bored very early. Noise wise, I think it's a tad better (the Navigator) than the LX but not by much. It had the traditional coil spring suspension and defintely not as comfortable / luxurious as the LX's hydraulic. The noise isolation of course not comparable to the MB S-class, the S-class is extremely quiet (the previous generation MY20+ have rattles though - not sure if it's because of late production or what... but the V8 and its tranny feel much smoother than the LX IMO) I am not too into the AHC feature hence I cannot comment on that.
I am also looking at the Hyundai's EV6 (yes an EV) as a local / short trip vehicle.
