Default Replaced Infamous Heater Hose Tees

Last week I replaced the plastic heater hose tees as preventative maintenance on my 07 LX470 with 76K miles that I have owned since 2014. I was surprised to find very minimal deterioration of the tees, despite their 14-year age and reputation for catastrophically failing. I fastidiously maintain my vehicles so I replaced them regardless of the condition; I figured it was cheap insurance. I am curious however, what other owners have found to be the average age or mileage for the tees to fail.

As far as other preventative maintenance, I had the timing belt, serpentine belt, and water pump replaced a few years ago. The fluids are regularly changed, including most recently transmission drain and fill (with filter replacement), transfer case, differentials, power steering, brakes, and AHC. I had new rotors and pads installed maybe 10K miles ago. When this service was performed, the inner and outer half shaft boots were replaced due to minor leaking past the clamps. Engine and cabin air filters are replaced regularly. The only two significant issues that I have had with this LX were the alternator and motor for the power tilt steering wheel. Are there any other areas I should investigate or other suggestions?

I replaced the infamous T's at 120K...the input key was brittle and broke when I tried to pull the hoses apart but I salvaged the broken side intact. No other maintenance issues other than wear & tear parts...brakes, tires, fluids, filters, etc. I use the heavy use schedule per the owners manual. The truck just turned over 200K, with no maintenance surprises.

Why not replace with a Metal Tee for peace of mind?

Brass PEX T's are two less things to worry about. 100 Series trucks' T's have a different diameter on the T-side...can't remember if larger or smaller than the run side. Mud has the info with a quick search.

198,000 miles until failure. Plastic is good until it's not. It's now brass for me.
